The territory's 1084 sq km i divided into four main areas - Hong Kong Island Kowloon the New Territories and Outlying Islands Victoria Harbour is Hong Kong's cents of gravity, with most of the urban areas lining the northern or southern shores. Originally about one mile wide, the harbour is heir squeezed by reclamation on both sides. On the south side of the harbour lies Hot Kong Island, which covers 78 sq km, or just 7% of Hong Kong's land area. Most of tl commercial and residential areas are on tl north side of the island, including Central the main business, banking and adminstrative district. The southern side of the isia mostiv wealthy residents and boasts some nice beaches. The two sides are separated by a backbone of steep hills, including Victoria Peak, Hong Kong's premier scenic viewpoint. The Outlying Islands incorporate a gislands apart from Hong Kong Island. Officially, the Outlying Islands are part of the New Territories and make up about 20% of Hong Kong's total land area. There are 234 islands and while many are tiny rocks, the largest(Lantau Island) is nearly twice the size of Hong Kong Island. Previously, there we 235 islands until Stonecutters Island ,are absorbed by land reclamation off the western shore of the Kowloon peninsula. Some of the larger islands, including Lantau, Cheu he Chau and Larnma, are well served by commiuter ferries and offer both residents and visitors an escape from Hong Kong's blistering urban pace. They are also home to some excellent country parks. If vou have the time make a vist to at leat one of the islands part of your itinerary.

Geography
Hong Kong consisting of a mainland portion located on the country's southeastern coast and more than 200 islands. Hong Kong is bordered on the north by Guangdong Province and surrounded by the South China Sea. Hong Kong's climate is subtropical and monsoonal. Summers, which last from May to September, are long, hot, and humid. Typhoons regularly cross Hong Kong in summer and autumn. These powerful storms bring violent winds and extremely heavy rains that occasionally cause flooding and landslides. The winter, lasting from December to March, is cool and drier. The total land area of Hong Kong is small. Hong Kong's mainland portion consists of the urban area of Kowloon and a portion of the New Territories. Lantau Island is the largest island. Hong Kong Island, across Victoria Harbor from Kowloon, houses the SAR government and the chief business district, known as Central. Despite Hong Kong's small size, the topography is varied and rugged because it is largely comprised of folded mountains. Hong Kong's greatest asset is its deep and well-protected harbor between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. This Victoria Harbor allows big ships enter and anchor safely. Port facilities are also well-developed. Level land for development is scarce. Less than 15 percent of the land is developed because of the rugged terrain. Land reclamation is important for acquiring new land for urban development. The coast of either side of Victoria Harbor, old airport Kai Tak International Airport and the new airport Chek Lap Kok International Airport are examples of land reclamation.

What To Wear Hong Kong is a favorite and most popular travel destination in Asia, where the exotic East fuses with the contemporary West as a dynamic contemporary city. It is a colorful kaleidoscope of attractions to arouse the senses: spectacular sightseeing, sensational shopping and fabulous foods. The vantage point of Victoria Peak, overlooking the world's busiest deepwater port, overshadows a city geared not only to making money but feeling good about it with a vibrant nightlife. At night, it's like looking down into a volcano.
The Chinese experience is enhanced by strong western influences from its colonial history but Hong Kong has always stuck to its roots and the culture beneath the glitz is pure Chinese.

Master of Arts in Education Thesis
    Aug 30, 1991
A Comparative Study of Selected Geography Curricula for Hong Kong and England with Special Reference to Environmental Education
LEE Chi Kin Abstract This is an exploratory study which attempts to answer two basic research questions: (a) In what way do the senior secondary school geography curricula in Hong Kong and England resemble each other and in what way do they differ? (b) To what extent do the senior secondary school geography curricula in Hong Kong and England contribute to environmental education? Environmental education is studied in the light of education about, in and for the environment. The present study is concerned with (a) the relationship of social change to the development of geography education with special reference to environmental education in Hong Kong and England; and (b) the analysis of the senior secondary geography curricula in both areas and geography teaching in relation to environmental education. Both the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) and the Hong Kong Certificate of Education (HKCE) geography curricula reveal a strong environmental emphasis in their content and make considerable contributions to education about the environment. Education in the environment is more fully accomplished with the introduction of a compulsory fieldwork component in GCSE Geography. Education for the environment is still an area that does not receive adequate attention. The components of action and participation in local issues are seldom emphasised and practised in the existing geography curricula.
