1. Idaho Technology Portfolio Assessment; or
2. Idaho Technology Competency Examination; or
3. Idaho Performance Assessment. Idaho Certificates are issued according to each specific field taught. These certificates are valid for 5 years. Provisional Certificates can be issued for applicants holding another state's valid certificate, which lasts for 2 years. Renewal takes 6 semester credit hours of coursework from an accredited college or university. Idaho Department of Education endorses out-of-state teaching certificates for the life of that certification, up to 5 years. Lifetime certificates are only valid for 5 years. The Department of Education does not issue substitute teaching certificates. Each school district determines what criteria they use to hire a substitute teacher. The only requirement is a background check that is good for 3 years.

Standards were developed in 1998 for teachers and "teacher quality" is included in requirements of the new federal "No Child Left Behind" legislation. Three different subcommittees have been working on policy and implementation strategies for changes in Teacher Preparation, Certification, and Professional Development needed to meet the new standards established. The Advisory Committee of MOST (made up primarily of business representatives) at their July 18, 2002 meeting agreed to forward recommendations from the sub-committees to the State Board for the action in AUGUST 2002 . Public hearings will be scheduled in the ensuing MONTH; the problem is very few people in education are available to respond to the proposals, which are provided below for your review and comment. And lastly, provide a program in which every child benefits and is a "winner."

Alignment of Teacher Education Program Components and Enhancement Standards
Our teacher education program course work and field experiences are designed to develop candidate knowledge, skills, and dispositions addressed in both the Idaho Core Teacher Standards and the Enhancement Standards. In our programs for the initial preparation of teachers, the Enhancement Standards relative to Subject Matter Knowledge (content knowledge) are developed through course work in subject matter components or teaching majors and minors. To qualify for graduation, elementary education candidates must complete two 18-hour components or one 30-hour component in a subject area, and candidates in the secondary education program must complete a 30-credit teaching major and a 20-credit teaching minor or a single-subject teaching major of 45 credits.
The pedagogical content knowledge, professional and pedagogical knowledge and skills, and dispositions addressed in the Enhancement Standards are developed in our teacher education program through the methods courses and field experiences specific to the teaching major or minor (e.g., elementary science methods, secondary biology methods, etc.). Candidates majoring in early childhood education, elementary education, library science, and special education take up to 20 credits of course work specific to the major. Secondary education majors take at least one content methods course specific to the teaching major. The alignment tables presented in the Program Reports accessed via the accreditation website show where in the teacher education program each of the Enhancement Standards is addressed.

International Employment for Teachers
Teaching Jobs Overseas Topics: international teaching, teaching overseas, teaching abroad, American and international schools, overseas jobs, international employment, etc.
Alternative Certification Many states have developed or are initiating programs that provide alternative routes to teacher certification, particularly for mid-career professionals. The goal of such programs is to draw a diversity of individuals with in-depth subject matter backgrounds into teaching careers. Requirements for an alternative teaching license vary by state. For an overseas position, it does not matter what state your license is from. Generally, applicants must hold a bachelors degree in the subject to be taught, achieve a passing score on state-required examinations, complete an intensive teacher preparation program, and possibly fulfill a supervised teaching internship. Specific information on which school systems are offering internships can be requested from the schools. After satisfactory completion of these requirements, the applicant will be issued a teaching credential.

Secondary/Special Ed or any other educational area of teacher certification.). a shortageof certified Special Education teachers both nationally and in idaho.
http://www.uidaho.edu/ed/teached/special/
Special Education Welcome Welcome to K-12 Special Education teacher preparation! Read the FAQ below or go straight to your area of interest. Advising Help Registration Can I get an endorsement or a minor in Special Ed? No, Special Education is its own area of certification. Special Ed majors are required to dual certify in some area of education. (e.g. Elementary/Special Ed. Secondary/Special Ed or any other educational area of teacher certification.) How long will it take to get a dual degree? Assuming everything goes well and you start as a Freshman, it should take about 4 and a half years. However, all Special Education majors should work closely with their advisor to stay on track as the program has a particular sequence and many classes are offered only once a year. Will getting a Special Education Degree make me more marketable? It should. Currently, there is a shortage of certified Special Education teachers both nationally and in Idaho. The UI has an almost 100% placement rate for Special Education graduates who are willing to re-locate.
