Samurai Brief History
Japan has a history that dates back thousands of years. Scientists believe the Japanese people descended from many groups that migrated to the islands from other parts of Asia, including China and Korea. As early as 4500 B.C., the Japanese islands were inhabited by fishermen, hunters and farmers. The early culture was known as "Jomon," which meant "cord pattern." That's because the people made pottery decorated with rope-like designs. Scientists believe a caucasian race called the "Ainu" were the first inhabitants of what is now Japan. The Ainu still exist today, mostly in the northernmost islands of Japan called "Hokkaido." The next major Japanese cultural changed occured about 200 B.C. The people were known as "Yayoi." The Yayoi were mostly farmers. Scientists believe the present-day Japanese closely resemble the Yayoi in appearance and language. War played a central part in the history of Japan. Warring clans controlled much of the country. A chief headed each clan; made up of related families. The chiefs were the ancestors of Japan's imperial family. The wars were usually about "land." Only 20% of the land was fit for farming. The struggle for control of that land eventually gave rise to the Samurai. One of the important dates in the history of the Japanese warring class is 660 B.C. That's when, according to legend, Jimmu Tenno became head of a confederation of warlike clans. Tenno was known as "The Divine Warrior." He led his people from Kyushu to the Kinki region and conquered the people there. Tenno settled in the area of Yamato. This eventually gave rise to the Yamato dynasty and state. The leaders of Yamato believed themselves to be of divine origin.

BASIC INFO. GEOGRAPHY GOVERNMENT ... JAPAN This nation with an ancient history has played a far more pivotal role in world events than its small size would seem to warrant. Through a succession of kings, the country saw its culture develop and thrive from the 3rd century on. By 1603, the region was controlled by Tokugawa Ieyasu who established his government in Edo (later Tokyo). At this time the structure of Japanese feudalism was established, including uncompromising class divisions and Christianity was suppressed (the Jesuits had sent Francis Xavier to Japan during the late 16th century). Tokugawa and those who succeeded him were successful in isolating the country from nearly the entire outside world. With the exception of a minor Dutch trading site, Japan had no contact other peoples and cultures for 250 years to come. But in 1854, Commodore Perry came to Japan and forced the reluctant country to open diplomatic relations with the US and engage in commercial exchanges. In 1889, a constitutional monarchy was established with a parliamentary government. Now, Japan seemed bent on following an imperial drummer, entering into wars with China in 1894 and Russia in 1904. Korea became a Japanese colony in 1910. Japan took the Allied side in World War I but during the 1920s a more sinister sort of right-wing nationalism came to the fore. In 1931, Japan invaded Manchuria, creating a puppet government there. In 1940, Japan allied itself with fascist Italy and Nazi Germany and proceeded to enter into war with the United States following the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in December, 1941. Though Japan was successful in acquiring much of the Pacific and southeastern Asia, the war in the Pacific turned around for the US in mid-1942 and Japanese expansion was largely halted from then on. Japan's surrender in 1945 paved the way for its postwar rebuilding as an economic giant. It was admitted to the UN in 1956.

Japan History of Japan According to tradition, the country was founded in 660 BC by Jimmu, a descendant of the sun goddess. Also by tradition, Jimmu is an ancestor of the emperor. Historians, however, place the date closer to AD 500, when the Yamato priest-chiefs established control over most of the island. During the next 300 years, the country was greatly influenced by China, borrowing Chinese forms of Buddhism, government and written language, but then changing them to make them uniquely Japanese. At the same time, the power of military generals, or shoguns, began to grow at the expense of the emperor, leading to a feudal system that lasted until the 19th century. The shoguns spent most of the 12th century fighting one another, which left the country exhausted and ripe for invasion. The Mongols under Kubla Khan tried to take advantage of this, launching a naval attack that was destroyed by a miraculous typhoon (the Japanese called this

B.C. A.D. 400. In the first centuries of the Christian era the country was inhabited by numerous clans or tribal kingdoms ruled by priest-chiefs. Contacts with Korea were close, and bronze and iron implements were probably introduced by invaders from Korea around the 1st cent. By the 5th cent. the Yamato clan, whose original home was apparently in Kyushu, had settled in the vicinity of modern Kyoto and had established a loose control over the other clans of central and W Japan, laying the foundation of the Japanese state. From the 6th to the 8th cent. the rapidly developing society gained much in the arts of civilization under the strong cultural influence of China, then flourishing in the splendor of the T'ang dynasty. Buddhism was introduced, and the Japanese upper classes assiduously studied Chinese language, literature, philosophy, art, science, and government, creating their own forms adapted from Chinese models. A partially successful attempt was made to set up a centralized, bureaucratic government like that of imperial China. The Yamato priest-chief assumed the dignity of an emperor, and an imposing capital city, modeled on the T'ang capital, was erected at Nara, to be succeeded by an equally imposing capital at Kyoto.

    http://www.treeclimbingjapan.com/history.htm
The home of treeclimbing Japan is found nestled in the forests outside of Seto Japan, in the Miso Barrel Treehouse . The desire to start treeclimbing Japan started with a trip to the Out'n About Treehouse Resort in Takilma Oregon. While staying in the resort Micheal the owner and a passionate treeclimber introduced me to Single Rope Climbing Techniques and my passion for climbing was born. A quick trip up to Tom Ness and Sophia Sparks (newtribe@cdsnet.net) the makers of New Tribe Climbing Gear in Grants Pass Oregon landed me a Treeboat, saddle, rope and all the other gear I needed in order to climb. They were very kind and fun people who encouraged me to climb with enthusiasm and care. Living in a treehouse and surrounded by Japanese Oaks, Kashi, Sora, and Tsubaki trees I was in climbing heaven. Being a writer by trade the treetops were the perfect office to think, dream and write. Treeclimbing is not only a hobby but very rewarding for me to teach. One day I helped a father and son learn how to climb. Both father and son had not been able to talk nor sit in the same room for the past 3 years. There is something so therapeutic and rehabilitating about being in the treetops. It was so apparent to me as I watched their differences, fears and anger fall away as they started to talk. Nature helped dissipate their anger by a gentle treetop breeze. I witnessed magic in the treetops that day. Sharing that magic inspired me to start Treeclimbing Japan.

    Japan History Textbook Issue
¡¡¡¡In 1997, some Japanese right-wing scholars, who thought the existing junior history textbook in Japan had the characteristic of "national masochism", began to compile a new history textbook. Soon a new edition which intentionally denys, blurs or even whitewashes the nature of the aggressive war launched by the Japanese invaders was finally successfully finished and submitted for examination. On 3rd of April, the junior high school history textbook edited by the Japanese Society for History Textbook Reform was approved by the Education Ministry screening panel. ¡¡¡¡This book has a number of references which condone Japan's history of invasion and colonial rule, and glorify the rule of the Emperor. The approval of such a textbook will certainly lead to the concealment, distortion and glorification of the history of invasions and atrocities committed by the Japanese Imperial Military.
