Overall Rating: Animefringe Reviews: Japanese Cooking By Holly Kolodziejczak This book is a simple and yet awe-inspiring look into the culinary world of Japan. I’ll be the first to admit that I purchased this book on pure whim. I knew as much about Japanese cooking as I did about brain surgery. However, Japanese Cooking took care of that in just a few short reading sessions. When I purchased this book, I was mainly looking for an idea of what foods were out there in the Japanese style of cuisine. With every other Japanese cookbook that I have looked at, I always ran into the same problem - most of the ingredients that were used in the book were either practically impossible to find or quite expensive. I also didn’t have most of the utensils that they required. Japanese Cooking changed all that, with its simple foods and easy to prepare dishes, presented with authenticity and taste. You can’t ask for anything more, when it comes to a cookbook.

Also from the point of view of gastronomy, this country is rich of contrasts: in typical Japanese cuisine fish, meat, rice, vegetables are combined with original ingredients like tofu and seaweed.
Japanese cuisine must delight eyes and palate as well: careful attention is paid to arrange the food in plates of different colours, forms and materials. It is pleasant to see a Japanese table with fine potteries of elegant porcelain or rough terracotta, of raw or lacquered wood and of square, round or triangular form. The dimensions are variable as well, but everything is harmonically combined with the rest.
G reen tea, sushi, sashimi, tenpura, sukiyaki are spreading also out of Japan: they are synonyms of an elaborate and healthy cooking.
The course of Japanese cooking will last form November, 2002 till June, 2003. Teacher and coordinator of everything is Mr. Takuzo Mizuochi, from Oita Prefecture, who is a professional cook and will be helped by an assistant. Theoretical as well practical lessons are programmed once a month: month after month Mr. Mizuochi will help those who take part in the course to discover the secrets of the Japanese cooking so particular and so wonderful.
