Are you paid what you're worth?:
How to negotiate a better salary.

Do you know how to find a job using the Internet?:
    The secrets revealed.
    Which Items Will You Need?
A good diary (A4/A5 size) with a page per day would be ideal. You will need to write down your appointments here, including the person you are seeing, the name of the company, the time you are meeting them, the address of the company, directions (how to get there) and any other important information such as how you found out about the company. You will also need to build up profiles of companies/people and keep notes of jobs you applied for and interviews you attended. So the purchase of some A4 loose-leaf binders and A4 paper would be a good idea. During your job hunting campaign you will need to write a lot of letters and you may want to alter your CV for a specific application. A PC, laser printer and word-processing package may therefore prove very useful and, if you were already thinking of buying these items, now would be a good time to purchase. If you are buying from a shop or by mail order it is usually safest to pay by credit card as the credit card company is then jointly liable if anything goes wrong. If you buy second hand equipment you should ensure that everything is in full working order before parting with your money. Another alternative would be to use a friend's equipment or just pay someone to type up your letters.

Once you have completed the preparation of your written materials, you are ready to begin your job search. There are many different ways to conduct a job search, with some combination being the most effective. Below is a list of some job search methods. In planning your strategies you should identify several different methods which you can implement simultaneously. Your primary goal is to let as many people as possible know that you are looking for a job. You should concentrate on disseminating this information in a professional and appropriate manner.
Networking Alumni consistently report that they found their jobs through some type of networking. What exactly does networking mean? Basically tell everyone (and that means everyone - parents' friends, religious advisors, your dentist, hair dresser, etc....) you know that you are looking for employment. Explain your employment preferences; listen to their advice. Find out if they know of anyone else that you should speak with. If an employer with a vacancy hears of a qualified candidate from someone that they know and respect, they will most often want to interview and consider the individual for employment even before advertising. Hence access to the "hidden job market". To facilitate your networking efforts, Career Services maintains a list of GSE alumni who have volunteered to be informational sources to current students and other alumni. These alums can be invaluable in discussing potential employers, organizations, leads and tips. When you contact one of these alums or anyone else for that matter, ask to arrange a time for an informational interview.

    Re: Modern Job Hunting
    by The Escaped Inmate
Looking for a job is a rotten experience. That’s no accident. After all, most jobs aren’t that great, so employers have to do something to make prospective employees desperate enough to take the crummy jobs. Hence the modern job hunt. First you reduce your qualifications to one piece of paper, preferably filled with the latest buzzwords. There are as many versions of the ideal resume as there are resumes. Of course the people who have the responsibility of actually screening the resumes don’t let the general public know what they’re looking for at any given time, so the resume turns out to be a rather random means of winnowing out the applicant pool. For all you know, it could be the difference between your taste in typefaces and that of someone in the human resources department that disqualifies you from what would otherwise be a good job. It’s easy to get upset about the resume routine, but it’s pointless. Take a moment to look at it from the other side. Imagine that your job is looking at resumes all day. You probably don’t know a whole lot about the particular jobs that are available, other than what little you’ve been told. The more technical the position, the more likely it is that the resumes are being sorted by someone with little or no first hand knowledge of what it takes to do the job. After all that person’s job is to sort resumes.

Adam's Definitive Guide to Getting that $250,000-a-year Dream Job, Becoming Unbelievably Famous and Marrying a Supermodel OK, maybe I was exaggerating a little bit there. But I do know a few things about job hunting. The want ads
-Truthfully, not a good way to find a job. Any job that's advertised that widely will have a mound of potential candidates, and getting to the top of that mound is frustrating and unlikely.
-The ads can be useful, but more as a research tool. Find out about jobs in your chosen field, what they pay, and what the circumstances are. Research
-This is key. Go to the library or go online and do research about the kinds of jobs you want to do. Join discussion groups for people in that field. Do whatever you can think of.
-Read industry journals. Subscribe to e-mail newsletters in the field.
-Do some information interviews. Do some more. Information interviews
-This means calling up people who have the job you want, or people who manage those people. You're interested in the field, you want to talk to them about how they got there, why they got there, what they like and don't like, etc.
-Don't say, "I'm looking for a job - are there any openings?" Deny any such plan if asked. You just want to talk.
