    The job offer fallacy
By Nick Corcodilos The Job Offer Fallacy ? It goes like this: You are in fact quite likely to need them. Never, ever cancel an interview or terminate your job search just because:
    • A company made you an offer in writing; or, You started the new job today.

A written offer can be rescinded.
From the Ask The Headhunter case file Day #1 can be your last day, too.
From the Ask The Headhunter case file After taking a job and closing the door on other opportunities, the new hire went through two weeks of training only to be told his department was being eliminated. He was given two choices: leave, or switch to another department and another job for $20,000 less in salary. He decided (quite correctly) to sue. Three months later, his lawsuit was barely off the ground and he was still without a job.

    Your Curriculum Vitae
Your CV is the first step in marketing yourself to potential employers. Many companies receive hundreds of applications, so it is vital that yours stands out from the crowd. Research shows that 50% of employers say design is the most important factor in making a CV eye-catching. When asked what would make them reject a CV, half said lack of relevant experience and a third said poor layout. Spelling mistakes and excessively long CVs were also cited. Janet McGlaughlin, a director at recruitment agency Pertemps that carried out the survey, offers the following advice on writing CVs.

Presently Working for Nippon Hoso Kyokai (NHK) Four months had passed since I started job-hunting when I went for an interview at NHK. Ten companies had already rejected me, and I was very depressed. I had lost my self-respect. I knew I would fail. I remember almost dragging myself to NHK in Shibuya from my flat near ICU. I didn't even have the energy to feel nervous, so I was able to talk naturally with my interviewer. After the interview, I felt I knew how to talk about myself more naturally. I reconsidered past interviews and realized that I should be myself more. The results didn't matter, because whether I was accepted or not was a matter of luck or fate. This was my impression all through my job-hunt. Here is my story My image of a job In October of my junior year, job-hunting activities started, and I started thinking about what I wanted to do. I belonged to the Samba Circle at ICU called the Lambs and spent more time practicing the Samba than studying. I was most happy when I was performing the Samba, so that gave me a clue for the type of job I wanted. We had various opportunities to perform in public such as at the summer festivals of shopping streets and at live concerts on campus. I was overjoyed when the audience told us that they enjoyed the performance and thanked us. This may sound vague, but I wanted to present the public with something and get a response. I looked for companies with this image in mind and came up with the cultural department of newspaper companies, TV and publishing.

Or .... The Job Hunting Safari
By Eva Rosenberg, MBA, EA Next to death, divorce ... and OK, taxes, having to look for a job is the most stressful thing you ever face. Especially now, when the economy seems so uncertain. Companies you could count on to have openings, no longer do. So the job search is taking longer and the final results may not offer the kind of compensation you expected at the outset. To make it all worse, since you don't know when you will be back at work, this is kind of a limbo time. People rarely use it productively, to take some leisure time to re-energize after a tough few years on the last job, or to start a cherished, but long-deferred project. Looking back, if you had known you had that much time coming, you'd have done it all so differently. Let's talk about just two of those things you must do differently right now. Record-keeping and taxes.
