Types of Interviews
by ResumeEdge.com - The Net's Premier Resume Writing and Editing Service All job interviews have the same objective, but employers reach that objective in a variety of ways. You might enter the room expecting to tell stories about your professional successes and instead find yourself selling the interviewer a bridge or editing code at a computer. One strategy for performing your best during an interview is to know the rules of the particular game you are playing when you walk through the door. Screening Informational Directive Meandering ... Follow-up The Screening Interview Companies use screening tools to ensure that candidates meet minimum qualification requirements. Computer programs are among the tools used to weed out unqualified candidates. (This is why you need a digital resume that is screening-friendly. See our resume center for help.) Sometimes human professionals are the gatekeepers. Screening interviewers often have honed skills to determine whether there is anything that might disqualify you for the position. Remember-they do not need to know whether you are the best fit for the position, only whether you are not a match. For this reason, screeners tend to dig for dirt. Screeners will hone in on gaps in your employment history or pieces of information that look inconsistent. They also will want to know from the outset whether you will be too expensive for the company.

Sponsored Listings Dealing with Interviews By Scott Boyd Here a few links for interview techniques. Points to remember: You are at the interview because the employer wants you there. It’s not goodwill, or charity – you earned the right to be there, so be confident in your abilities – you’ve just overcome the first step!
Go into the interview, smile and shake the hands of the people who will be employing you. And for the love of God, try to remember their names!
Be relaxed – especially important if the job you are going for requires client or customer contact – if you cant be relaxed while being interviewed, you will not get a customer / client related job. Don’t pick your nose and put your feet up on the desk though – that’s too relaxed.

Certainly there are tons of hard-working, dedicated, talented people who have been out of jobs for way too long. But there are a few jobless people out there who how can we put this delicately? would get beaten by lawn furniture in a spelling bee. Dave Murphy San Francisco Chronicle You want proof? Consider some of the comments below, which were made by applicants during hiring interviews. The comments were collected by Caliper, a human resources consulting firm. Here goes: "What job am I applying for, anyway?" "My resume might make it look like I'm a job hopper. But I want you to know that I never left any of those jobs voluntarily." "Do you know of any companies where I could get a job I would like better than this one?" "I'm quitting my present job because I hate to work hard." "Does this tie go with this suit?" "I can't see out of these glasses. Can I come back when I get my new glasses?" "I will definitely work harder for you than I did for my last employer." "I'm looking for a way to slow down and cut back on my commitments."

Job interviews can scare the most confident of people, but being properly prepared will help make the whole experience less intimidating. Find out everything you can about their company and the key personnel. The annual report will be a terrific resource, as will press cuttings. Ringing the company in advance to request information is a good idea. Before you head off to the interview make sure you have re-read your application and cv - you will be quizzed on the points you have raised - and try to work out what questions you are likely to be asked. Expect them to ask why you want the job, why you think you are suitable, why you want to leave your current employer and what you can bring to the party. Remember your fate can be decided before you get the chance to utter your first words to the boss. If you are late (regardless of the reason) and are not smartly dressed then the chances are your application will immediately hit the reject pile. Work out how long you comfortably need to get to the interview, then add at least another half an hour, and ensure you look the part. Once there be courteous to everyone, particularly your interviewers, while resisting the temptation to be overly ingratiating - this will only look false. During the interview be confident; answering questions clearly and precisely. Do not waffle. Cut to the main salient points. Concentrate on the positives you can bring to the job. Without being phoney, get across your enthusiasm and dedication.

You are most understandable to potential employers in terms of your past career choices and your tenure in prior settings. Understandably, your most recent position is the clearest indication of your highest level of competency. The mere fact of change can raise questions about your motives. Are you running toward something or away from something? It is important to stay in control of your search to ensure that these market forces do not dictate your choices. Job seekers must use all the resources available to them to customize an approach to suit individual needs and overcome market obstacles.
