Newsgroup History "History" may be the wrong title for this page, as it's difficult to call something history when the difference between history and current events is so blurry. I've been rewriting this page for 6 years to keep up with ongoing history, and I will probably have to continue doing so until the Wheel stops turning. Although many sites have been found in the northern portion of the country, few have been excavated, and little evidence of settlement in this period is found south of Ash-Shawbak. The region's early Bronze Age culture was terminated by a nomadic invasion that destroyed the principal towns and villages, marking the end of an apparently peaceful period of development. Security was not reestablished until the Egyptians arrived after 1580 BCE. It was once believed that the area was unoccupied from 1900 to 1300 BCE, but a systematic archaeological survey has shown that the country had a settled population throughout the period. This was confirmed by the discovery of a small temple at Amman with Egyptian, Mycenaean, and Cypriot imported objects.

HISTORY of JORDAN A BRIEF LOOK AT THE JORDAN'S POLITICAL HISTORY A fter the Turkish defeat in World War I, the territory of Jordan became part of the short-lived Syrian kingdom of king Faisal I (later king of Iraq). After the French forces defeated Faisal in 1920, Transjordan was incorporated into Britain's League of Nations' mandate of Palestine. Transjordan was treated separately from Palestine, however, and its residents were assured that it would not be affected by the establishment of a Jewish homeland in the future. His majesty king Abdullah, Faisal's brother, was chosen to rule over Transjordan in 1921. He cooperated closely with the British, who helped create the Arab Legion, a small army later commanded by Sir John Glubb. In 1928 a treaty with Britain made Transjordan a constitutional monarchy. A second treaty with the British on Mar. 22, 1946, created the Hashemite Kingdom of Transjordan. Robert Jordan's History The text below was not written by me and I take no credit for it. Robert Jordan, creator of The Wheel of Time believes that fantasy is an enduring form of literature because it reaches "something deep in people; their dreams." He feels that fantasy literature appeals to a desire for a simpler time of life with recognizable good and evil, and that fantasy provides a universe with rules, order and underlying framework. The author has both a degree in physics and a military background, unusual credits for a fantasy writer. A lifelong resident of Charleston, South Carolina, Jordan was born in 1948. With a brother 12 years his senior, Robert began his education at an early age, and his future interest in fantastic literature was inevitable. "When my parents couldn't get a baby-sitter, they'd get my brother," he recalls. "He would read to me, not kids' books, but things he was interested in, like Jules Verne, H.G. Wells and Mark Twain, so I was exposed to a lot of great fiction. Jordan served two tours of duty in Vietnam (from 1968-70), earning the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Bronze star. The Vietnamese twice awarded him with their Cross of Gallantry. After Vietnam, he entered the Citadel, the military college of South Carolina, where he received a degree in physics. In retrospect, Robert Jordan feels that physics is not such an unusual background for a fantasy writer. "You can't study quantum mechanics without a feel for fantasy," he recently reflected, "Schrodinger's Cat alone will kill any logical person dead." After attaining his degree, he was employed by the Navy as a nuclear engineer. He was hospitalized for an injury which gave him a great deal of time to catch up on his reading. Jordan quickly ran out of satisfactory material, and in exasperation, thought he could probably write as well as the authors he had been reading. The Wheel of Time is the happy result.

Section History During the IEEE workshop on Power Electronics held at Jordan University during 18-20 May 1999, discussion took place about forming a section for IEEE in Jordan. A committee was formed to apply for formation of such section. The committee was formed by 1) Professor Omar Asfar 2) Professor Mohammed Zeki Khedher 3) Dr. Abdullah Mehdi 4) Dr. Mohammed Abderrazaq 5) Dr Kamel Al-Tallaq The committee communicated with IEEE headquarter and started the procedure for applying for section establishment. Signature of 52 IEEE members were collected and formal application was sent to the headquarter. On 12 November 1999 the section was officially formed by the headquarter and Professor Mohammed Zeki Khedher was named as the Interim chairman. The Geocode for the section is R80079. The news was mentioned in REGION 8 NEWS BULLETIN - JANUARY 2000. A bank account was established and preparations took place for performing the first executive committee.
