    School Motto
"Today's Learners, Tomorrow's Leaders" Oatville Mission Statement We believe:
    • all children will learn and develop a desire for learning. learning is an on-going, lifelong process. all children should have the confidence to be risk takers without losing their dignity. in celebrating the diversity of all learners. the school environment should be one of mutual respect, responsibility and accountability. the education of a child consists of a partnership with the child, the teachers, the parents and the community.
The first Oatville School was a two-room school located at the northwest corner of MacArthur Road and West Street in southwest Wichita near the small community of Oatville. In 1956, the present Oatville Elementary was opened on South Hoover and the principal lived on the campus in a small white house located directly north of the building. Oatville then had classes for kindergarten through eighth grade. School buses have since provided transportation for children to the rural elementary school. In 1967, Oatville was unified with the Haysville School District and the seventh and eighth graders were transferred to Haysville Junior High.

The Leavenworth County Special Education Cooperative (LCSEC) provides special education services to children with special needs within the six school districts of Leavenworth County. Leavenworth County is located approximately 35 miles northwest of Kansas City, Kansas, and to the northeast of Lawrence, Kansas. The Leavenworth Public Schools is the sponsoring school district for the LCSEC and is responsible for the administering the LCSEC's program.

The smiles you see all have a different story. Shiley is learning to ride a tricycle. Shawn is going down the slide. Crystal is learning a magic trick at a school assembly. But behind each smile they share a common goal to do their best and to learn new skills daily. That's why Sunshine Center School has been a part of Kansas City since 1975. Since the beginning, Sunshine Center has grown to reflect the changing needs of children in our community. Today, more than 250 children, ages birth through 21 years, from greater Kansas City are served each year. Some are developmentally delayed or medically fragile; others are physically disabled. All are in need of special services that are provided at Sunshine Center School. The mission of Sunshine Center School is to provide comprehensive services to children birth through 21 years of age, who are disabled and non-disabled, and to assist their families to meet these needs. Sunshine Center School is a private, not-for-profit, educational facility with quality programs for children with developmental disabilities. The agency was founded in 1975 as one of the schools in the United States to provide educational and therapeutic programs to children with special needs and their families. A pictorial of the school and a collection of disability links are available at this site. Today, Sunshine Center School continues its rich tradition of educating children with developmental disabilities. Programs and services continue to expand and adapt to meet changing needs.
