This Website was developed for the Alabama Department of Education by the Online Academy at the University of Kansas as a resource for institutions of higher education and local education agencies in Alabama as they implement the Academy modules. The resources include online modules; presentations developed by the Academy for faculty and technical staff responsible for implementation; opportunities for discussion among staff of participating institutions and agencies; and resource material shared by instructors or the Academy staff. The intent is to use this site to facilitate the efforts of pre-service and in-service teacher education programs in implementing the Academy modules. The Kansas Project for Children and Young Adults Who Are Deaf-Blind Deaf-Blind Resource Links "Engaging, Enabling, and Empowering the Deaf-Blind" Grant Documents and Technical Assistance Who are the Deaf-Blind? The term “Deaf-Blind” has been spelled in several different ways, i.e., “deaf-blind”, “Deaf-blind”, “Deaf-Blind”, “Deafblind”, “deafblind”, etc. The chosen spelling is often reflective of one’s personal view and/or involvement with deaf-blindness. Regardless however of the term’s “grammatically-correct” English spelling, deaf-blindness refers to the unique condition resulting from the combined effect of the loss of both vision and hearing. Thus, those with a dual-sensory impairment are not deaf and blind nor blind and deaf. They are uniquely “Deaf-Blind”. The federal definition for the “Deaf-blind” is: “Deaf-blindness means concomitant hearing and visual impairments, the combination of which causes such severe communication and other developmental and educational needs that they cannot be accommodated in special education programs solely for children with deafness or children with blindness.” 34 CFR 300.7 (c) (2)

MCCC oversees the following initiatives: Partners In Quality (PIQ) PIQ was formed in 1996 as a collaborative among 16 organizations committed to creating high-quality, accessible early childhood care and education throughout the Kansas City community.
