By Cecil Bleiker // USOC Media Services // Feb. 13, 2003
SAN JOSE, CALIF. - On a night that saw some of the greatest Olympic legends of all time honored by the U.S. Olympic Committee as "Olympic Titans", the U.S. karate team got the competition off to a rousing start in the inaugural Titan Games at the Event Center at
San Jose State University, winning seven of the 11 bouts versus Mexico.
2002 World Karate Champions Elisa Au and George Kotaka set the stage for the U.S with early victories in this first-time event. Karate Instructor Certificate Program While some Karate Organizations have sponsored programs for karate instructors, this is, to our knowledge, the first such program presented at a major university in the United States. The Program's faculty is composed of some of the most experienced educators in Karate and Martial Arts as well as those with strong Sports Medicine and Sports Science background. Far too often people with inadequate knowledge of sports sciences and teaching skills have engaged in the field of karate instruction and coaching. It is evident from the program outline that this course of study is intended to provide the participants with the scientific and teaching background, together with necessary knowledge of biomechanical skills needed to effectively teach karate students and athletes of all skill proficiency levels and ages.
