geography Climate. The country of kenya is slightly smaller thanthe state of Texas, yet larger than France. It's 582,646 sq km
http://www.jambokenya.com/jambo/kenya/geogrph1.htm
Kenya lies on the equator and is bordered on the north by Sudan, Somalia and Ethopia; Uganda and Lake Victoria lie to the west; Tanzania and Mount Kilimanjaro are to the south while the Indian Ocean lies to the east. Kenya has twenty mountains, six of which rise to over 3,000 meters (9,900 feet). The Tana River, largest in the country, supports river traffic in its lower regions. Most of Kenya's rivers and small lakes dry up during the dry season making perennial water shortages an ongoing problem. Before the formation of the Rift Valley, Kenya's climate and vegetation could best be characterized as tropical. The great geological changes that created the Rift triggered extreme climatic changes as well. After millions of years of evolution, Kenya's climates now range from semi-arid to tropical, temperate to alpine, and also include artic. The country has three main geographic regions, each characterized by its own unique climate and vegetation.

http://www.nchila-wildlife-reserve.com/abnp/about_two.htm
Geography Nchila is in the Mwinilunga district which borders Angola and D.R.Congo. It is the watershed area between the Congo and the Zambezi, and mainly drains into the Zambezi system westward into Angola. Altitude c.1,200 - 1,490m. Click map below for enlargement. Geology The Kalahari Sand which covers much of the western part of Africa south of the Equator has been eroded in the Mwinilunga district on the slopes. The underlying rock, once exposed, mixes finer material with the sand. Some areas are waterlogged over an impervious substrate. These areas support a suffrutex savanna vegetation and provide areas of great natural beauty in the reserve. Natural Vegetation "The seepage and riverine fringing forests of Mwinilunga are the richest in Zambia. There are certainly species as yet unrecorded in them." (1991 IUCN report: Center of plant diversity) A. Forest

http://www.ncf.carleton.ca/ip/government/embassies/africa/kenya/geograph
Geography Location: Kenya lies across the equator on the east of the African continent. Neighbouring countries are Ethiopia to the north, Somalia to east, Tanzania to south, Uganda to west and Sudan to north-west. Area: 582,646 square kilometres. Relief: The land stretches from the sea level (Indian Ocean) to 5,199 metres at the peak of the snow-capped Mount Kenya. From the coast, the altitude changes gradually through the coastal belt and plains (below 152 metres above sea level), the dry intermediate low belt to what is known as the Kenya Highlands (over 900 metres above sea level). Proper flood plain is seen in the Tana River Delta in the coastal belt and plains. Coral limestones are found in the area from Malindi southwards. The monotony of terrain in the low belt is broken by residual hills, masses of broken boulders and inselbergs. Settlement is confined to places where water can be found. Wildlife are masters of the greater part of the low belt. The famous Amboseli Game Reserve and Tsavo National Parks are situated here. The Great Rift Valley bisects the Kenya Highlands into east and west. Mount Kenya is on the eastern side. The Highlands are cool and agriculturally rich. Both large and small holder farming is carried out in the highlands. Major cash crops are tea, coffee, pyrethrum, wheat and maize. Livestock farming is also practised. The Lake Victoria Basin is dominated by Kano plains which are suited for farming through irrigation. The northern part of Kenya is plain and arid. Pastoralism is the main land use activity. However, a variety of food crops do well through irrigation. Climate Kenya enjoys a tropical climate. It is hot and humid at the coast, temperate inland and very dry in the north and north-east parts of the country. The country's location on the globe, altitude and the flow of air masses are the main determinants of its climate. For example, the average annual temperature for the coastal town of Mombasa (altitude 17 metres) is 30.30 Celsius maximum and 22.40 Celsius minimum, the capital city, Nairobi (altitude 1,661 metres) 25.20 Celsius maximum and 13.60 Celsius minimum, Eldoret (altitude 3,085) 23.60 Celsius maximum and 9.50 Celsius minimum, Lodwar (altitude) 506 metres) and the drier north plainlands 34.80 Celsius maximum and 23.70 Celsius minimum. There is plenty of sunshine all the year round and summer clothes are worn throughout the year. However, it is usually cool at night and early in the morning. The long rains occur from April to June and short rains from October to December. The rainfall is sometimes heavy and when it does come it often falls in the afternoons and evenings. The hottest period is from February to March and coldest in July to August. The annual migration of wildlife between Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and Maasai Mara National Park in Kenya takes place between June and September. The migration of almost two million wildebeest, zebras and other species is nature's greatest spectacle on earth. The animal trek has been captured by filmmakers worldwide. Population Estimated at 30 million in 1998 with a projected growth of 2.8 per cent per annum. The population of Kenya was 21.4 million following the 1989 census. The growth rate at the time was 3.4 per cent, down from 3.8 per cent in 1979. The population of Nairobi and Mombasa - over 1.3 million and 461,000 (1989) respectively. The population in other major urban centres - 20,000 to 200,000 (1989). dk433 March 1998

    http://www.ceasurf.org/kenya/history.htm

    History
Kenya shares with it's East African neighbors Ethiopia and Tanzania the distinction of being the cradle of humanity. The coastal peoples were for centuries in contact with the Arabs and the Persians who came by sea to trade. The Swahili culture common to much of East Africa was developed. The contacts brought about the creation of cities on the Indian Ocean coastline. Kenya was a British colony and protectorate from the 1890's until independence in December 1963. The country's first president, Jomo Kenyatta, transformed Kenya into a de facto single-party state as leader of the Kenya African National Union (KANU). KANU established and maintained political dominance. In December 1991, opposition political parties were legalized. In December 1992, multi-party elections were held with four presidential candidates Geography
