Fitness Classes We offer a variety of fun and exciting classes on land and in the water! Aerobics Low Impact Aerobics: High energy choreographed routine without bouncing movements. Basic to Intermediate (45 min) Step Aerobics: Fun cardiovascular conditioning class with high intensity and low impact choreography using a step platform. Intensity levels can be easily varied by performing the movement without the step. Basic to Intermediate (45 min) Cardio-Combo Aerobics: An intermediate class utilizing the latest moves in low impact aerobics and cadiovascular kickboxing. By Helen Bond Martial arts meets boxing as latest workout craze strikes Associate Clubs. Are you looking to get a kick out of exercise? Head to a kickboxing class, the hot new fitness trend that blends martial arts with boxing. “Everyone knows the fitness of a boxer,” says Kevin Durio, a martial arts instructor who earlier this year launched the first kickboxing class at Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas. Distinct from competitive kickboxing, in which opponents square off in a ring similar to boxing, kickboxing is a fast-paced class that incorporates quick, concentrated kicking and punching movements that come from the center of the body. By some accounts, one hour of powerful kicking and punching burns between 700 and 1,000 calories, compared to the average 400 that disappears with step workouts. Kickboxing novices may not have the moves of Jean-Claude Van Damme or Jackie Chan, but they are getting an all-over workout that burns loads of calories, boosts confidence, reduces stress, and develops strength, flexibility, and stamina, says Steve Dmytrow, athletic trainer and kickboxing instructor at The Fairlane Club in Dearborn, Michigan. “You are using every muscle in your body, depending on the punch and kick you throw,” Dmytrow says.

Who'd have thought, for instance, that one day workout rooms would be filled with people standing on one foot? Or that something called "the corpse pose" would figure big in an exercise program? Locating the hottest-of-the-hot in the club world, though, is no sweat. It's the fitness facility itself. As Randy Myers, fitness director at PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, put it, "I've seen fitness go from being an afterthought to the foremost thought in club design. Clubs now are designing their facilities around the fitness center. If you don't have one, people will go to another club." Stan Peterman, vice president of Quinton Fitness in Seattle, added that, "fitness areas in private clubs are expanding substantially, with many clubs looking for space to put in some type of workout area. A lot of them have had pools and steam rooms put in and they're trying to add athletic departments, which are basically small versions of health clubs. Some weights, some aerobics, some things to work on agility and stretching." If you're looking for an exercise that combines effectiveness with up-to-the-minute trendiness, try this stretch out belly-down on the floor. Get into the push up position. (The man's push up, with the body straight, not the woman's modified push up.) Rest your forearms on the floor. At the other end, only your toes are touching the floor. Your body is up in the air. Hold it there for as long as you can.

Kickboxing fitness programs have grown to be among the most popular conditioning programs today rated by Muscle and Fitness Magazine TM as "One of the top ten workouts EVER" . As more and more people become involved, more progams are being offered. Unfortunately some of them are being put together simply to meet the demand with little regard for the safety and satisfaction of the student. There are many good programs across the country and this is a general guideline of what to look for in your quest for total fitness.
  • Determine your needs and physical limitations. Are you looking for weight loss, endurance, improved strength, improved muscle tone and strength or just looking for a new cardio activity to round out your existing workout. Do you have any past or present injuries that might hinder your training. The better programs will provide you with alternative activities to compensate for any injuries. Find the programs in your area and observe classes.

Personal Fitness Program
This program is designed for those who have never exercised or have difficulty maintaining an exercise habit.  The 12 week program is designed the make the member a regular exerciser through a gradual introduction to the equipment and support from a Personal Fitness Advisor. During the first of four meetings, the Advisor and member will discuss barriers to exercise and strategies for overcoming them. At this meeting a contract will be made in which the member will commit to exercise 3 times a week for 12 weeks.
