Devoted to You Books ~ Parent and Child Grade K-6
Tracy Ryks Parents and children in kindergarten to sixth grade will get the experience of learning how to write their own storybooks. You will learn how to develop a main character, create a problem for him or her, and resolve the situation. Class participants will write a story together to give children hands-on experience and parents get tips on how to encourage their child's storytelling abilities. Then, participants will write their own story to be bound in book form. Fee includes the publishing/binding of the story into a hardcover book. We'll also examine easy ways to preserve your children's artwork to create a one-of-a-kind keepsake. Not only are there tremendous educational benefits, this is a fun activity you'll be able to continue at home. One session/$40 per pair (adult with one child). Enter at 'B' door from the west side parking lot.

Partnership delivers art primer for future K-6 educators The point Moats wanted to make on this day involved delivery. What financial backing the course does have comes from a grant by the Getty Institute for Education in the Arts, the Texaco Foundation and the Institute for Educational Inquiry. When that money runs out (after the spring 2002 quarter) Gehrke hopes to have a permanent course in place through the College of Arts and Sciences. In fact, the students have driven all over the Seattle metropolitan area learning about everything from the visual arts, to music theory, to drama. They even choreographed and performed a dance for their classmates. And none of the students even has designs on becoming an art teacher. Rather, they will likely be one of the elementary school generalists that are needed to help students reach competency in an increasingly wide range of disciplines, including art. Steve Hill
