What is ecology? Ecology is the study of how organisms live, interact with other organisms and how they interact with their environment. There are many fields in ecology and in those fields there are many amazing careers to pursue. In general, ecologists try to understand the connection between organisms and their environment. Ecologists can also study humans and how we interact with our environment! The main idea behind being an ecologist is to be really curious about how life works on (mainly) this planet. Careers in Ecology How to become an Ecologist More Information Careers in Ecology Some examples of careers in ecology are environment consultants, research assistants, research scientists, professors and program managers. Environmental Consultants - look at ecological impacts of development and recommend solutions to mitigate (or lessen) those impacts on plants and animals. They also work to solve ecological problems. Environmental consultants often check out building sites or places that people want to preserve to figure out what plants and animals live there, how many there are, and what to do about them. They are especially concerned about endangered and threatened species that exist there. Consultants can have a variety of backgrounds and are hired with either Bacherlors, Masters or Doctorate degrees.

    http://www.astc.org/exhibitions/rotten/rthome.htm
This amazing on-line Smithsonian exhibit in four sections takes an in-depth look at the complex issues surrounding municipal solid waste. What Is Garbage? looks at how we define garbage, and why it consists of more than what we throw away. There's No "Away" explores how burying, burning, and recycling garbage doesn't really get rid of it, and that reducing what we use is the only real solution to the garbage problem. Nature Recycles shows how the natural process of decay makes new life possible by recycling the limited number of nutrients present in the environment. Finally, Making Choices provides some helpful hints on how we can all create less garbage. Internet Consumer Recycling Guide
