Kyrgyzstan celebrates Days of Slav culture and literature
Traditional Days of the Slav culture and written language started in the Chuysky region of Kyrgyzstan. The event is celebrated for the tenth time, every year it is celebrated in a special way.
This time the event is to be celebrated not in the Kyrgyzstan capital, but in the towns and villages of the Chuysky valley, where majority of Slavs live and where traditions are carefully observed. Another peculiarity of the celebration this year is a bigger number of its participants. Traditionally guests from Russia and Belarus take part in the event, but this year actors, writers, journalists and diplomats from Ukraine are also coming to Kyrgyzstan to celebrate the Days of the Slavic culture and written language.
The key idea of the Days’ celebration in Kyrgyzstan is to make the nations closer, to get a better picture of other people’s cultures and ways of living. Guests from the CIS Slav countries said at the Days’ opening ceremony, that culture was designed to make people closer to each other, not separate them from each other. In many respects Kyrgyzstan may serve an example to it. Since establishment of the independent state practically no international conflict occurred there. Russian Tatars live in the republic, newspapers and magazines are regularly published in the Russian and Ukrainian languages. It means, cultures of different people live in harmony in Kyrgyzstan.

Culture Culture Kyrgyzstan is a country with an ancient culture and age-old values and traditions. The Kyrgyz people is regarded as one of the oldest in the Central Asian region. Its culture has significantly developed during the Soviet era. Much of what has been accrued is being preserved despite financial difficulties. However, the National Sustainable Human Development Strategy admits that within the period from 1990 to 1994, due to the twofold decrease of the GDP, one-third slump in agricultural and 60% in industrial output, the State is unable to keep the previously achieved cultural development levels. The State takes some measures to support culture and provide legal and social guarantees to those employed in artistic and cultural activities The Law on Culture, Presidential Decree "On the Presidential Program ' Madaniyat ' and ' Madaniyat' " Concept and State Programme on the Development and Conservation of the Kyrgyz Republic culture and arts for 1997-2000 has been adopted... It is reflected in the way a household was run, in customs, and rites. People decorated their homes with items that were both beautiful and practical. The masterpiece of folk creation is the Kyrgyz tent (yurta), which was easy to assemble and transport from place to place. Yurta is a small dwelling, decorated with hand-made felt carpets and strips. Having its routes at ancient Turkic tribes yurta took all the best from many centuries' experience of people. Kyrgyz tribes, occupied with nomadic cattle-breeding in mountains, worked out the best type of transportable dwelling that is easily disjointed, moved on pack animals and again set. Yurta consists of wooden construction and felt cover. Latticed sliding walls (kerege) consist of separate links. They define sizes of yurta. From the external side kerege are covered with mats, made of cheegrass stalk. It lets air the dwelling and the same time keep it from wind and dust. Sphere roof of yurta is made of sharp-cut bend from one side poles - uuk. By one side, where bend is, they are fixed in the upper part of wall basis, by other side they are set to the wholes in tunduk - wooden circle at the top of yurta.

In Central Asia lies a wonderful mountainous land crossed with thick mountain ridges of the Tien Shan and Pamirs -Alai - a country of Kyrgyzstan. Kyrgyzstan is a country of striking contrasts. This is a land of powerful mountains covered with eternal snow and alpine meadows with placers of flowers; impetuous rivers bordered with cliffs and foamy waterfalls; and steppes with the smell of wormwood - it is a land of blue lakes and green valleys. In Kyrgyzstan there is a pearl of Central Asia - the emerald-blue Issyk-Kul lake, the Alpine lake competing in its beauty with the lakes of Switzerland. A richness of relief forms, abundance of mountain lakes and cascades, walnut and fruit-tree forests, alpine meadows and glaciers, existence of the Issyk-Kul, exclusively favorable resort and climate resources, historic, architectural places for sightseeing, originality of a traditional material culture of Kyrgyz people, variety and wealth of the Kyrgyz folk-lore make Kyrgyzstan attractive for international tourism. The unique Alpine Issyk-Kul Lake remains unfrozen in winter and this, naturally, attracts a special interest. The Issyk-Kul lake looks lovely in any season. A number of resorts and rest houses located on the coast of the lake operate all year round. The mountains around the lake invite you to look at them closely. The mountain ridges Kungay Ala-Too and Terskay Ala-Too are abound in picturesque gorges covered with fur trees through which noisy streams rush down foaming.

"Destination: Kyrgyzstan" offers a close view of a newly independent nation. The teaching materials, together with the accompanying video, will help students learn about the history and culture of this nation. These teaching materials will help students understand the influence of physical geography on culture, and will focus on the diversity found even in a relatively small country such as Kyrgyzstan. The activities in the guide have been grouped into three academic levels: grades 3-5, grades 6-9, and grades 10-12. The six basic themes of geography serve as the fundamental organizing structure of the units. The themes and the national geography standards based on each are found on pages 5-6 of this guide. Each activity is coded by number to the standards to which it best relates. Each lesson in this study guide includes the following sections:
