We have a Public Policy Committee that addresses issues that affect COVA members and the victims they serve. We need input from throughout the state to bring a broad perspective to our efforts. If you are interested in being on the committee, or would like to see a particular topic addressed, please contact the COVA office 303-861-1160, 800-261-2682, or e-mail us. 2002 LEGISLATIVE SUMMARY, Updated June 19, 2002 The Colorado General Assembly convenes from January to May each year. Legislators introduced 714 bills this year; approximately 400 have become law. COVA tracks all bills that involve criminal justice and/or victim rights and services. This year, COVA did not develop any bills to be introduced, but we did work collaboratively with law enforcement, District Attorneys, and domestic violence and sexual assault victim groups on bills of common interest. Between now and January, when the next legislative session begins, COVA will be working with our members to determine what changes are needed in Colorado laws affecting victims and victim services. We will work to develop thoughtful proposals to bring about any needed changes, and we will be alert to any efforts to hinder or reduce victim rights or services. | |
