    Biographical Information
I am a native of New York State and received my basic education in the Fairport Public Schools. I began my college career at Nazareth College of Rochester majoring in math, chemistry, and computers but I developed an interest in developmental and abnormal pyschology. I transferred to the University of Rochester receiving my baccalaureate degree in Psychology. With a desire to work with students with emotional and learning disabilities, I moved to Charlottesville, Virginia where I received my masters degree in Special Education from the University of Virginia In Charlottesville, I met my husband, and began my professional career teaching for Albemarle County Schools . I spent nine years working as a resource teacher for students with emotional and learning disabilities. As the school district began to explore the use of computers and the computer language of Logo, I was given the opportunity to return to my interest in computers by becoming the instructional technology coordinator for the special services program. I provided administrative and assistive technology support for all the special education teachers in 20 schools. During my four years working with technology, I developed a number of computer modules for teachers and assistive technology applications for students with severe disabilities.

SPECIAL ED INFO SPECIAL EDUCATION: A term that refers to "specially designed instruction that meets the unusual needs of an exceptional child". (Hallahan, Kauffman, EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN , Prentice Hall, NJ, 1991, p.8) Exceptional Children: Those children "who require special education and related services if they are to realize their full human potential. They require special education because they are markedly different from most children in one or more of the following ways: They may have mental retardation, learning disabilities, emotional disturbances, physical disabilities, disordered speech or language, impaired hearing, impaired sight, or special gifts or talents." (Hallahan, Kauffman, p.6) Learning Disabilities : (from LD Online) "LD is a disorder that affects people's ability to either interpret what they see and hear or to link information from different parts of the brain. These limitations can show up in many ways: as specific difficulties with spoken and written language, coordination, self control, or attention. Such difficulties extend to schoolwork and can impede learning to read, write or do math." There are three basic types of learning disabilities: 1. developmental speech and language disorders 2. academic skills disorders 3. Other (a catch-all that includes certain doordination disorders and learning disabilities not covered by other terms. Each one of these categories includes a number of more specific disorders <source: National Institutes of Health, 1993>" (Info from LD Online web site:
