LONG ISLAND LIZARDS Lizards acquire Dougherty in five-player trade The Long Island Lizards have traded star player Casey Powell, along with goaltender Brian Carcaterra to the Rochester Rattlers, for Brian Dougherty, Chris Cercy and Conor Denihan. Rochester also receives Long Island’s third round draft pick (17th overall) in this monumental trade for the upcoming MLL Collegiate Draft. “Casey and Carc were great assets for the Lizards,” said Kevin Fox, the Lizards General Manager. “It was a difficult decision but we feel confident that our players can raise their level of play on both offense and defense. We received 3 great players that will step in and help us right away.” Powell, arguably the best player in lacrosse, will be reunited with his younger brother Ryan on the Rattlers’ midfield. Casey led the MLL with 68 points last season, and is the all-time leading scorer in MLL history with 121 points. “We feel we were able to make this trade because of the strength of our team,” explained Lizards President Joseph DeSimone. “We never felt we needed to rely on any individual player. We also feel that with Casey's departure we will truly be able to showcase how great the Lizards are.” Long Island native Chris Cercy joins the Lizards roster as one of the best faceoff men in the country. Cercy has taken 768 career draws in the last two seasons, winning 55.6%. At Syracuse University, Cercy led the nation, winning 69.2% of his draws as a senior and 71.1% as a junior. His value as a faceoff specialist may skyrocket if the league implements a change to the release rule as well.

Austin Lounge Lizards
Listen to the Austin Lounge Lizards sound clips. Richard Bowden, Hank Card, Conrad Deisler, Boo Resnick, Tom Pittman. Sound like pretty normal fellows with pretty normal names? Think again. These five standup bluegrass comedians write songs like 'Stupid Texas Song,' 'The Dogs, They Really Miss You,' 'Leonard Cohen's Day Job,' Jesus Loves Me (But He Cant Stand You)' and 'Love In A Refrigerator Box.' Funnily enough, they have a large adoring audience and often take their act to Europe to promote new albums such as 2000's Never an Adult Moment
While in London, the Lizards played live on a 2-hour country music program that is broadcast via satellite to 31 countries, and here's what Steve Taylor said about Employee of the Month in the June, 1998, issue of Country Music International: "If the Austin Lounge Lizards have heard of political correctness they don't acknowledge it, as their song titles may suggest." The Austin Lounge Lizards have an interesting history.

Lava Lizards General Info: Adult length from 8 to 10". Lava lizards come in a variety of beautiful colors, shapes and sizes. These small lizards are great as an introduction to reptiles for children. Children should always be supervised by an adult when interacting with any animal. General Info: Ideal daytime temperature for these lizards should range between 70 and 85 degrees. Additionally, a basking lamp should be used to maintain a local temperature of 90 to 95 degrees. Nighttime temperature should remain between 60 and 75 degrees. The humidity for these lizards should be kept between 45-55 percent. Lighting: All diurnal lizards (mainly active during the day) require ultraviolet lighting to maintain good health. Ultraviolet lighting is recommended for 12-14 hours per day. The use of a timer will help to maintain an accurate lighting schedule. Feeding/Watering: Lava lizards are insectivorous (eat mainly insects). Insects should be dusted with a vitamin/calcium powder. Suggested insects are: crickets, mealworms, superworms, and waxworms. A shallow water bowl is necessary to keep these lizards in optimum health. Water should be changed daily. Habitat/Housing: Individuals can be maintained in a 15-20 gallon terrarium. A screen lid is essential for proper air exchange. Lava lizards are best kept singularly. However, for multiple pets, increase habitat size accordingly to ensure each lizard has plenty of space to move about and not interfere with tankmates. An undertank heater should be placed on the same end of the tank as the basking lamp. Multiple climbing branches are necessary as well as a shelter for hiding, especially if multiple pets are in the same enclosure. Misting the habitat occasionally will help maintain proper humidity levels and allow for these lizards to intake water in a manner to which they are accustomed. Substrate

BIBLIOGRAPHY
The following is a list of books which deal with all lizards, or with a whole family (eg Varanidae). Books that deal with a group of or individual lizards are included under the appropriate sub-section (see Lizard Guide on the previous pages). General reptile books are dealt with under the appropriate section.

Lizards in Captivity, Richard H. Wynne, TFH.
As a guide to a comprehensive selection of lizards and their general requirements, this is a good book. It lists the families and their most representative species, and gives basic care notes on each one, including breeding. There are also chapters on housing, feeding and breeding. My only slight quibble with the author is that he does seem in places to underplay the difficulty in practice of keeping some of the lizards mentioned, eg the rarer agamas. Unlike a lot of TFH books, the pictures in this book are all relevant and very attractive, including a large number of colour plates. Well worth the buy.
Lizards of the World, Chris Mattison, Blandford.

Eumeces anthracinus anthracinus
Tioga County, NY Species
In number of species, lizards are the most successful reptiles in the world. There are over 3,500 species of lizard alive today. Most of these are found in the warmer tropics and subtropical regions of the globe, but many are found in a more temperate distribution. Lizards are uncommon to rare in New York with 3 species of 2 families native to the area. One other species of a third family, Lacertidae, has been introduced.
Lizards are characterized by a long body with four legs and a tail. The skin is covered in scales. Unlike snakes, most lizards have movable eyelids and external ear openings. Many people mistake lizards for salamanders, but salamanders have slimy skins as compared to the dry scale covered skins of lizards. The feet of lizards ends in a claw, unlike the feet of salamanders.
All of the lizards in our area are largely insectivorous, feeding mainly on hard bodied arthropod prey. Lizards do not chew and thus their food must be swallowed whole. They grab their prey with their jaws, not with their feet. Virtually any insect that fits into the lizards mouth will be taken as food. Terminology
  • Autonomy- the ability to lose the tail and then regenerate it. Lizards and salamanders have this ability.

This web page has been designed to describe just a few of the different types of lizards and turtles, housing for lizards and turtles, foods and feeding for lizards and turtles , breeding of lizards and turtles, general health and care of lizards and turtles and some general information and educational material along the way. Hopefully this site will also give a little insight to those that are thinking of taking that first step to having a reptile as a pet, and answer a few questions for the new reptile owner as well as a reptile owner thinking of entering the realm of breeding, and to help you keep your lizard or turtle a healthy, happy pet.
This section has been added to this page mainly so the beginner will have an idea of what is meant by genera, species, and subspecies in identifying and describing the lizards and turtles that will be mentioned in this site.
The science of identifying and giving names to animal and plant species is known as taxonomy ; and the first taxonomist to devise a workable and practical system of classification was a Swedish botanist by the name of Karl von Linne (1707-1778). Linne took on the mammoth task of naming all the then know species of plant and animal under a system of

I started it on Christmas and finished it 2 days later. I recently added breeding info and goldfish facts. It seems to be doing much better than this site. ^.^ Goldfish Obituary December 19, 1999 By: Coolsnake Other News:
I would like to dedicate this update to my late goldfish, Fishy. The following is a tribute and obituary to him. Fishy
Color: Gold
Died: Dec. 19 @ 10:20 PM Fishy was a great fish. He has lived almost the longest of any of the fish I knew. Only one tank mate survives, Cozmo. Cozmo is taking the loss very emotionally. They say that fish don't have feelings, but I say they are wrong. I remember when he used to beg for food with Cozmo evey time I entered my room. He will be missed by me and Cozmo. May he rest in peace now. I hope he is swimming with the angels now. The tank will be forever lonely without him.
Burial services will be held in my backyard on the morning of Monday the 20th

17. Sonoran Lizards
general information and a look at the natural habitat of Heloderma suspectum presented by BioPark International, Inc.
http://biopark.org/lizards.html
LOTS OF LIZARDS
In the Sonoran Desert, lizards are particularly conspicuous to the casual observer because so many are diurnally active. Most species are carnivorous and the majority are important consumers of insects. A few, like the common collared lizard ( Crotaphytus collaris ) eat other vertebrates, including their own young. Like the desert spiny lizard ( Sceloporus magister ), they are occasionally omnivorous, eating blossoms and buds in the spring. Few are primarily plant eaters like the common chuckwalla ( Sauromalus obesus ) and desert iguana ( Dipsosaurus dorsalis ). In both species, the young are well-known to eat insects while the adults are chiefly or exclusively herbivorous. The well-known Gila monster ( Heloderma suspectum ) is one of two living venomous lizards.
It is a predatory scavenger specializing in the eggs and helpless young of reptiles, birds, and small mammals. Its brief surface sojourns from subterranean retreats occur mainly in April and May, the best seasonal window for activity requiring moderate daytime temperatures and reaping an energy bonanza from the spring bounty of eggs and nestlings.
Gila monsters spend about 98% of their lives underground.
