Misogi Diet The macrobiotic approach to nutrition classifies foods according to their biochemical and biological effects, taking into consideration factors such as:
  • The chemical composition of food - especially the relative sodium (Na) content versus that of potassium (K).
  • Origin of a particular food - either animal of vegetable quality.
  • Environmental influences - such as climate, season and soil condition.
  • Factors in cooking - such as time, heat and pressure.
Foods can be generally categorized into those which are more expansive and which produce a more relaxing tendency; those which are more contractive and produce a more tightening tendency; and those which are more centered and which, when eaten in balanced proportions, have the effect of harmonizing our condition with the surrounding environment. Borrowing the terminology from several thousand years of Oriental tradition, macrobiotics refers to all foods as having complimentary yet opposite tendencies of yin (expansion) and yang (contraction). Among foods, some are at the extreme of yin or yang, while some carry a more even balance of both factors. Achieving this more balanced condition has been the goal of most spiritual teachings throughout the ages. Common food items are generally classified as follows: Centrally balanced: Whole cereal grains (brown rice, whole wheat, millet, barley, oats, rye, buckwheat, corn, etc.); beans; local vegetables; sea vegetables; locally grown seasonal fruits, fish and shellfish; seeds and nuts; non-aromatic and non-stimulant beverages; naturally processed vegetable oils such as sesame and corn; naturally processed seasonings such as miso, tamari soy sauce, unrefined sea salt.

Culinary Arts What is Macrobiotics?

The term "macrobiotic" describes a holistic lifestyle which seeks to empower people to take control of their lives and to educate them to make healthy lifestyle choices and decisions. It empowers individuals to establish awareness, health, and harmony in their lives, personal relationships, communities, and environment.
Macrobiotics is a holistic philosophy that aims to achieve balance and peace in people's lives through awareness and common sense living. Common sense living includes getting enough rest, eating the way nature intended, being kind and respectful towards oneself and others, and respecting the environment.
Macrobiotics is now popularly known for and has been well-publicized for its success in curing disease, most notably cancer . While a very strict version of the macrobiotic diet can eliminate many cancers, a more varied diet based on whole grains, vegetables, beans, and other organic natural foods is recommended by most macrobiotic practitioners. By eating the way nature intended, you not only support the ecosystem, but also enhance your own health. To test this yourself, read our

http://www.9starki.com/shiawase.htm
Macrobiotics- A Brief History
The Macrobiotic Way is a school of thought and action, based upon the use of natural (non-synthetic) materials in our fabrics, our homes and our food. Even many naturally occurring ingredients can be hazardous to our health (e.g. hemlock, opium, sodium, lead); therefore, to determine the correct applications for natural materials, they are classified in accordance with the "Unique Principle". The Unique Principle was introduced to the Western world by George Ohsawa (Yukikazu Sakurazawa), a Japanese businessman, teacher and writer. As a teenager, Ohsawa was diagnosed with tuberculosis and was deemed to have little chance of surviving, by the Japanese medical doctors. However, by following the teaching of Sagen Ishizuka, a natural healer who was famous in Japan near the beginning of the 20th century, Ohsawa was able to heal himself. He traveled from Japan to Europe in 1929 and, soon thereafter, began teaching the Unique Principle. The "Principle", itself, employs the ancient oriental practice of Yin and Yang theory, to determine the quality of the materials in our universe. Though all aspects of the environment are important in the macrobiotic way of thinking, there is a special emphasis on food. This is because the food we eat becomes our bodies. Food turns into us. Therefore, special attention is paid to the quality of that portion of the environment which we consume. All things, including food, can be classified into a "more yin" or a "more yang" category. Generally speaking, yin (pronounced 'yeen') foods tend to be more sugary and/or watery and/or cold and/or tropical in origin. Yang (pronounced 'yahn') foods tend to be more meaty and/or dry and/or cooked and/or polar, in nature.

What is Macrobiotics?
Macrobiotics amounts to finding our physiological limitations and trying to live within them. This is the cultivation of humbleness. When we think that we can do anything we want, we become arrogant. This arrogance causes sickness. When we are living within our physical limitations, then our spirituality is free. Macrobiotics seeks freedom in spirit. Freedom exists in our spirit so we can think anything. But biologically, physiologically we are unfree. We can wish to eat anything we want, but we cannot do it.
Disciplining physical unfreedom is the foundation of spiritual freedom. God didn't give us unlimited biological freedom, but appreciating and taking into consideration our unfree physical condition leads us to infinite spiritual freedom."

The Macrobiotic Way as Taught at The Vega Study Center
In the macrobiotic way as taught at The Vega Study Center, you are inspired to find the life that you want to live, not to follow or imitate others. The macrobiotic way is not a static approach but a dynamic adventure using simple principles that, when freely applied to every aspect of living, can guide you to a healthier and happier daily life. The first step in the macrobiotic way is to learn the application of these principles to daily food selection and preparation. The macrobiotic way is not a rigid dietary formula that condemns or accepts any food blindly, but encourages us to understand not only the value and proportion of nutritional factors, but also the "life quality" of the food that we choose.

Macrobiotics Macrobiotics The History Of Macrobiotics In the 1880s a Japanese doctor, Sagen Ishizuka, found that he could treat many common health problems with a diet based on wholegrain cereals and vegetables, and without rice and refined sugar products. He kept case histories and published his ideas in two books. In 1910 the Japanese writer George Ohsawa put these ideas into practise and claimed that the diet had cured his Tuberculosis. Ohsawa went on to develop a whole dietary system based on Ishizuka’s methods, which he named Macrobiotics – from Greek words meaning ‘large’ and ‘life’, as he believed that it could make everyone healthy enough to enjoy life to the full.
It goes without saying that all aspects of healthy eating should always be encouraged, taking into account the wide Varity of digestive problems that can become a part of M.E. Therefore Macrobiotics is a wonderful example of eating your way to inner harmony and health. My aim for this article is to educate you this fascinating method so that Macrobiotics simply becomes a way of life for you.
‘Macrobiotics is based on the Chinese Yin and Yang, two qualities that compliment and balance each other, which are held to be part of every natural object.

Macrobiotics is a system of living, eating and healing that originated in 19th century Japan. This Japanese philosophy now enjoys a worldwide following attracted by its principles of harmonious living with nature through a balanced whole foods diet, an active lifestyle and respect for the environment
Have you ever heard of a diabetic tiger or an asthmatic cheetah in the wild? Or a rheumatic fish, for that matter? Makes you wonder why in the entire animal world it is the human beings who contract, suffer and die from such a wide variety of diseases. Maybe because we have moved away from the 'natural' world, towards habitats and lifestyles that continue to become increasingly complex, extracting from us their pound of flesh for 'luxuries' that we demand almost as our right for having moved up the evolutionary ladder?

The Heart Chakra Macrobiotics and Mental Health By Gale Jack GALEJACK@email.msn.com              After many years of eating a grain-based diet, I see even more clearly that mind and body are one and food has the power to create mental stability and feelings of well being as well as anger, anxiety, depression, fear, hyperactivity and many other symptoms.  Today, anxiety attacks, eating disorders, depression, alcoholism and many other conditions are considered “ disorders of the brain” that affect a person’s moods and feelings and influence their ability to relate to others and enjoy day-to-day activities. The words “schizophrenia” or “paranoia” can strike a note of fear in the most balanced person.  Yet mental balance can be restored with the macrobiotic way of living and eating.              One must understand which foods are yin and which foods are yang, the five transformations of energy along with the organs, foods, and conditions associated with each, whether a particular “disorder” is basically yin and yang or a combination of both and finally, and how to adjust the energy in the diet through proper cooking.  So let’s begin:

WHAT IS macrobiotics? macrobiotics refers to a way of living that is in harmonywith the natural order of the universe, based on the ancient concept of Tao.
http://www.goldminenaturalfood.com/Macrobiotics.htm
WHAT IS MACROBIOTICS? "Macrobiotic" comes from the Greek; "macro" means great or long, and "bio" means life. "Macrobiotics" refers to a way of living that is in harmony with the natural order of the universe, based on the ancient concept of Tao. It’s a tool that teaches us to be flexible, to live with the continually changing nature of things, to balance the expanding and contracting forces of yin and yang. The macrobiotic approach to diet emphasizes whole grains and fresh vegetables. To choose what foods work best for you, consider these factors: What types of foods did your ancestors eat? (Note: Most traditional cultures’ staple diet consisted of grains and beans, with local, seasonal vegetables and fruits, occasional animal food, and fermented or pickled foods.) Consider your age, gender, condition, and lifestyle. For example, children have different nutritional needs from adults because they are growing. A person with an active lifestyle has different requirements than someone who is more sedentary. Where do you live and what is the season? Whether you’re in a cold climate or a hot one, you’ll want to eat seasonal foods that are appropriate to your climate. Then you won’t be too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter.
