We seek to teach and influence both a cross-section of children of mid-coastal Maine and, through an intern program, seminars, speeches and publications, classroom teachers through the U.S. CTL Staff A teacher since 1973, Nancie Atwell is the founder of CTL, president of the CTL corpor-ation and chairman of its board, and grades 7-8 teacher of writing, reading, and history. She became the first classroom teacher to receive the major research awards given in the field of language arts, the M.L.A. Mina P. Shaughnessy Prize and the N.C.T.E. David H. Southern Maine Parent Awareness (SMPA) is a nonprofit organization comprised of parents, professionals, and community volunteers that provides information, support, resources, and referrals to families who have children with disabilities, aged pre-birth through 21 years. Originating in 1980 as an intimate support group for parents, SMPA has evolved into a unique, regionally focused organization that currently serves over 6,000 families and professionals in York and Cumberland counties. Our goal is to help families and caregivers build working partnerships with the schools, state and private agencies, and community organizations that serve them.

He provides consultation and technical assistance to public schools in Maine and the state departments of education in the New England area. He was responsible for the management of Maine's special education dispute resolution system including consultation, technical assistance, mediations, complaint investigations and due process hearings. Maine-ly Nutrition: Elementary School Nutrition Education Project
Elementary teachers in eligible schools learn how to link classroom nutrition education with the Maine Learning Results, and are provided an opportunity to work together with other teachers, the school food service staff and MNN partners. With over 260 teachers participating in the project, there will be approximately 5200 students reached with classroom nutrition education. Thousands of other children and adults will be reached through the school-wide/ community nutrition events. More information.
