The Health Information Library of Stephens Memorial Hospital was established through a grant awarded by the Betterment Fund of the Bingham Foundation, and through support from the 1994 Annual Fund of Western Maine Health Care. The Library opened in June, 1996, with two end-user computer workstations, a circulating book and video collection, twenty different consumer health magazines/newsletters/journals, and an extensive health pamphlet collection. The resources are multimedia in format, and are intended for use by the general public. The Health Information Library is a separate library from the Stephens Memorial Hospital Medical Library.

85. Fogler's Library And Special Collections
Orono. Collection of bibliographic records representing research materials on maine folklore and folklife, and primary resources on mainerelated local history.
http://libraries.maine.edu/marspeccoll/foglerspecoll.htm
Archives Database The Fogler Library Special Collections Department participates in the Archives Database. The Archives database is a catalog of three prominent archival collections on Maine and the Canadian Maritime Provinces: the Maine Folklife Center and Special Collections at Fogler Library located at the University of Maine, Orono, and the Acadian Archives/Archives acadiennes located on the Fort Kent campus. Collection level bibliographic records represent research materials in Maine folklore and folklife, and primary resources on Maine-related local history. Much of the information is unavailable from any other source. Cataloging is incomplete for all three Archives. For a complete record of holdings, researchers should contact the respective archives. Special Collections Department, Fogler Library The Special Collections Department was established in 1970 in order to bring together Fogler Library resources relating to the long, distinguished history of the State of Maine. Our collections included a variety of formats: books, state documents, theses, newspapers, maps, periodicals, photographs, and manuscripts. These materials provide an opportunity for diverse approaches to uncovering historical information. The Department's manuscript collection is represented in the Archives Database, and contains papers from Maine families, businesses and industries, clubs and organizations, and native peoples. A variety of other subjects are also represented. Our staff is ready to help in the use of this great resource.

University of Maine News Folklife Center Makes Donation to Maine’s Libraries August 21, 2001
Contact: Joe Carr at 207-581-3571 ORONOThe Folklife Center at the University of Maine recently made some of its books more widely available, both at Maine’s public libraries and on the World Wide Web. The center donated seven books, including "Anna May," "I’m a Man that Works," "Dell Turner" and "Wilbur Day" to all of the state’s public libraries. According to Pauleena MacDougall, associate director of the Folklife Center, the idea to make the books available at libraries was that of director emeritus Sandy Ives. "We have a fairly large backlist of books and while they sell on a regular basis, Sandy thought it seemed kind of silly to keep them in the basement when people could be reading them," says MacDougall. "We thought this would be a nice opportunity to get these books out to the public." In addition, she says, this allows smaller libraries to own many of the books they have not previously been able to afford.

Law Libraries Online Maine Law Libraries The mission of the State Court Library Committee is to provide access to current as well as historical sources of law and law-related information in an efficient, cost-effective, and timely manner. In the State of Maine, access to justice is a constitutional right
This right is guaranteed by Article I, Section 19 of the Constitution of Maine: Section 19. Every person, for an injury inflicted on the person or the person's reputation, property, or immunity, shall have remedy by due course of law; and the right and justice shall be administered freely and without sale, completely and without denial, promptly and
without delay. Access to justice for our citizens involves more than the establishments of courts and laying out the State's legal process.
Access to justice must include access to the primary and secondary sources of law, that is to say, access to the rules, regulations and judicial precedents, not only in Maine, but also in the United States. Accordingly, it is necessary to locate and make use of these primary resources. Access to justice without access to information is truly meaningless.
