    Manitoba Overview
    Location
Manitoba is on of the three prairie provinces and is bordered by Ontario, Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories, Hudson's Bay and the United States and is the geographical centre of Canada. It has an area of 650,000 square kilometres and is known as the land of 100,000 lakes.
    History
The first inhabitants of Manitoba were the Assiniboine Indians. Europeans reached Manitoba through Hudson Bay in the early 1600s during their search for the Northwest Passage to the Orient. Early European attention was focused on the fur trade, though by 1812 the first agricultural settlements were established. Manitoba became a province of the Dominion of Canada in 1870, with Winnipeg as its capital.

First visited by the Europeans in the 17th century, it was later explored and fortified by both the British and French. Acquired by Canada in the late 1860s it became a province in 1870.
Known by sportsmen as the "Province of Lakes," the largest being Lake Winnepeg, larger than Lake Ontario of Great Lakes fame, Manitoba is mostly a flat area, with some hills and small mountains in the southwest. Winnipeg, the capital, is the only major city.

    British Columbia

Shouldering the Pacific Ocean on the western coast of Canada, British Columbia (B.C.) is perhaps the country's most culturally and topographically diverse province. Its ethnic depth and scenic beauty are simply astounding. Not only does the province have one of the country's highest rates of foreign immigration (and wonderful communities and traditions that accompany this), but it's also home to countless waterways, mountains, farmlands, forests and cities.

    Manitoba, Canada
    Welcomes you
The province of Manitoba, short MB, is the easternmost of the three Prairie Provinces and the fifth largest province of Canada. Manitoba is bounded by Saskatchewan to the west, Ontario to the east and Nunavut to the north. The southern half of the province is quite level. Northern Manitoba features rocks, hills, forests and an abundance of lakes. The province’s name derives from the Algonkian Indian word for Great Spirit - ‘Manito’, referring to a strait in Lake Manitoba. The Native Indians called it ‘Manito Waba’, which means Manito Strait. Later it became Manitoba.
Manitoba is a province of majestic rivers, arctic coastline, lakes, forests and desert dunes. The western edge features blue skies as far as you can imagine with as sea of rolling waves of golden wheat, lavender flax and yellow canola. Two-thirds of Canada's 500-plus species of birds come to Manitoba, drawn by more than 100,000 lakes and countless rivers and marshes. Manitoba is a premier wildlife-watching destination with among the highest densities of moose, elk and black bear. You will also find wolves, fox and beaver. Near Hudson Bay, a marine frontier showcases animals in white - polar bear, beluga whale, arctic fox, ptarmigan and more.
Winnipeg is the capital of Manitoba having the sunniest winter seasons with 358 hours of sunshine. More than half the population of the province of Manitoba lives in Winnipeg. The city is widely known as the Christmas Capital of Canada. Winnipeg derives from the Cree word ‘Winnipee’ meaning "muddy waters". The city is situated in Canada’s geographical centre and makes a pleasant stopover while crossing Canada.

BUDGET TRAVEL - Winnipeg, Manitoba - Canada
I would also like to see destinations to this city. Winnipeg is in the centre of Canada and it has more than its share of attractions, and deserves to be a tourist destination. The summer attracts a major food festival called A Taste of Manitoba which lets you sample some of Winnipegs finest cuisine. Its outdoor venue in July is more than alot of fun. What about Folklorama which just recently swept awards at the North American Festivals and Events Industry Association. This 2 week long event attracts people from everywhere and lets you visit hundreds of other countries without leaving the city. Talk about culture and an experience! Canada is far to vast and interesting to just have 4 or 5 cities as part of its major destination points. Have you ever seen Kenora Ontario in the summer? It is just a 2 hour drive from Winnipeg, and I recommend everyone to enjoy its lakes and harbour. David W. Edgington , Department of Geography, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada V6T 1Z2 ABSTRACT The location and type of Japanese property investments in Canada are examined as a case study of the increasing globalization of property markets and the remarkable rise of Japanese investors in the late 1980s. Unpublished official statistics and company interviews indicate investment patterns had uneven implications for Canada's cities and regions. Even though Toronto is often seen as Canada's world city, Japanese investors as a whole overlooked the commercial potential of its property markets. The majority of their real estate investments took advantage of Japanese tourism growth in Pacific Canada, and was associated with hotels and golf courses in Vancouver and its surrounding region. The author stresses the importance of Japanese perceptions, as well as local opportunities and constraints, in shaping the geography of Japanese investment in Canada.
