As fans will know, the end of March saw the release of two small books written by J. K. Rowling, Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them . This page contains resolutions, documents and links related to Indian Mascots and the AMERICAN HOLOCAUST
from the SEVEN CREEDS SOCIETY TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION COMMITTEE FILE A CIVIL RIGHTS COMPLAINT AGAINST A SCHOOL WHERE DID INDIAN MASCOTS COME FROM? Indian mascots were created in boarding schools in the late 19th century. They were created from actual human flesh, the bodies and spirits of little innocent children were destroyed in a human sacrifice to white racial supremacy. Children were taken from home and family. They were incarcerated in institutions that were work camps run by Christian Churches. They were brainwashed and tortured in order to eliminate their connection to family and religious origins. They were not treated as human beings who deserved mother, father and family at their side but as a social experiment like rats in a laboratory. These children were forced to work to produce salable goods for hours and hours in a day. They were worked in pseudo academic exercises to create a feel good and economic enterprise for White America. They were crowed into institutions and sexually molested by the staff. Children were universally named and trained as mascot INDIANS in these schools. They were rewarded for playing football and baseball and were pitted against white schools. This time in the USA was a period in which colored minorities were considered less than human. The boarding schools were an attempt to prove that American Indians, conditioned with in a controlled and regulated environment could give responses and behave as white people. This social experiment has created infinitely more problems than solutions.

Tuesday , March Marcia Richardson's life has taken an unexpected turn or two since leaving the University of Maryland, but they eventually pointed her back to basketball. It took a few years for Richardson, 39, to recover from the stress of being one of the top ball players at the university. She had been a member of three ACC championship teams and had scored 1,630 points between 1981 and 1984. That still ranks her the third all-time leading scorer in women's basketball at Maryland. The Upper Marlboro resident tried coaching basketball right out of collegejoining the staff at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., in 1984. She coached alongside Jim Lewis, now in his second season as head coach of the Fordham women's basketball team in the Bronx, N.Y. But she lasted at George Mason less than a year. "She felt that she was burned out," Lewis says.

I hope our first Neighborhood News Flash was helpful - maybe leading one additional neighborhood to compete for a slot in the Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative, or prompting one neighborhood leader to pick up the phone to help out with Kidz Nite Inn, to give our young people a positive alternative to hanging out on the corner on Friday nights. I appreciate all the feedback we've received - both notes of encouragement and advice, and new e-mail addresses to add to our list. Keep it up. You can also phone our neighborhood liaison, Richard Burton, at (410) 396-1809 with any concerns. As I wrote last week, the News Flash will constantly evolve based on your input. This week, I had the opportunity to say a few words to more than 600 new Baltimore City schoolteachers. As school districts across the state struggle to hire enough new teachers to staff their faculties, Baltimore City is ready to roll. We're fully staffed earlier than we've been in years. Last weekend, the Sunpapers called our city, "the brightest spot" in the state, in terms of teacher recruitment. As we gear up for a new school year, there is a new optimism in our school system. Under the leadership of our new School CEO Carmen Valera Russo, the Baltimore City Schools will build on the legacy of improvement left by Dr. Robert Booker - which includes dramatically rising test scores in our elementary schools. No job is more important than teaching our children, and Baltimore's new teachers already are working hard to ensure they're up to the task.

The Pawnee Indian School in Pawnee, Oklahoma, was one of many federally funded boarding schools built around the turn of the century for the purpose of assimilating Indian youth into white American culture. Since native children were considered too "slow" for advanced education, the boarding schools were actually institutions of vocational training, run by military style discipline. As far as I can determine, the official name of the school in Pawnee, which taught children up to the Ninth Grade, was the Pawnee Industrial School, but most people referred to it simply as Pawnee School or descriptively as the Pawnee Indian School or the Pawnee Boarding School. My father was one of thousands of Native Americans from north central Oklahoma who attended the Pawnee School during the first half of the 20th Century. The school was known locally as "Gravy U," referring to a steady diet of thin gravy in the dining hall. When I asked my father, he said that the nickname had preceeded his attendance there, and that he didn't recall any particular preponderance of gravy meals. Although the school closed over forty years ago, the sandstone buildings have survived to this day, and the campus is listed on the National Register Click on a thumbnail image to see the full-size photo.
