University of Maryland, College Park
The flagship of the 11-campus state university system, University of Maryland, College Park, boasts an enrollment of nearly 20,000 students on its more than 1500 acres of campus just outside Washington, D.C. A clear quarter of that student population is from out of state, with another 8% coming from other countries altogether. Undoubtedly, they are attracted to the school for its wide variety of course offerings and its nationally recognized programs.
Seven of the university's programs have been ranked among the top ten of public research universities by the National Academy of Sciences.
Undergraduates are able to choose from 117 programs of study, while graduates have 84 choices. Literally, from accounting to zoology, if there is a subject you are interested in, you can probably study it here. Similar to the multitude of course offerings, this university is home to three hundred student organizations, including a radio station, a daily newspaper, 26 fraternities and 19 sororities. Not to mention the thriving sports program , which is home to the nationally ranked Division I Terps, as well as many intramural and club leagues.
