IDEA Can Help Keep Your Teaching Dreams Alive!

Supports Used in Student Individualized Education Programs

IDEA Can Help Keep Your Teaching Dreams Alive! Most teachers dream of an ideal classroom where all students learn with ease and where every problem is solved before it occurs. Ideally, legislation that guarantees equal access to all learners is designed to help make that dream a reality. Educators have been known to groan, however, that federal and state laws governing classrooms may seem to make an already difficult job even more trying. help you help the student with optimum efficiency for both of you. Testing Tye
Tye, an eighth grade student, has superior abilities in mathematics. He understands mathematical concepts, has strong reasoning skills and does well on math tests. In view of the growing importance of test scores, Tye sounds like a dream student. Without the IDEA provisions, however, Tye might not be able to realize his potential at such a high level because he has a severe reading disability. IDEA allows Tye to have the test orally presented. Tye can be tested on his mathematical reasoning and calculation skills, participate in the general mathematics curriculum, and earn a meaningful grade. His self-esteem remains intact and he is a contributing member of the academic program.

In order to meet our mission, the Maryland Poison Center provides a variety of different types of education to meet the needs of our different customers. The Education section of this site is divided into two broad categories: General and Professional education.
Our general educational efforts are geared towards non-health professionals. These resources are intended to help increase the awareness of the potential poisons that are found in every home, business, and school, to help prevent poisonings from occurring, and for those cases where a poisoning does occur, to make sure everyone knows that they can quickly and easily get information to help those patients by contacting the Maryland Poison Center. From this section, you can view examples of poison prevention and awareness brochures, Mr Yuk stickers, and other resources. Our Professional educational efforts are targeted towards the special needs of health professionals. These materials are primarily designed to help the clinician better manage poisoning and overdose cases that end up in a health care facility.

What is the Non-Point Source Pollution Education Campaign?
Washington State Department of Ecology received a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency to create nonpoint source pollution educational materials and was encouraged to distribute them among other environmental organizations and government agencies. The result was a series of television commercials and posters that aimed to increase public awareness about the pollution we produce through everyday activities. The Tributary Strategies Program received these materials and has worked with the local government contacts in Maryland to air the 2-30 second commercials on their local cable stations. Also, WBOC-TV 54 in Salisbury aired these commercials for several weeks in the fall of 2001. Here you can see the resulting Non-Point Source Pollution Education Campaign.
