Click here for our many Links, below. If you are pursuing genealogical research and need assistance with a Kent County family, we ask that you prepare your request in writing or submit it by email. Include any basic information you have on the family and specify if possible the time period you are researching. We will be happy to search our family name files. There is no charge for us to look and let you know if we have a file for a given family. If you would like us to copy the files and look in some of our other Kent County-related genealogical materials, the fee is $25 per surname plus photocopying costs. If it takes over one hour to do the lookups and copying, we charge an additional $20; we cannot put more than two hours into a specific question because all of our genealogical work is done by volunteers. We can direct you to a local researcher if you need additional work. If you plan to visit the Geddes-Piper House to pursue genealogical research, please notify us in advance by mail, e-mail, or phone. An appointment isn't necessary, but it's better if we know you are coming.

The Maryland Landings
The Maddox Family
A great many American families trace their roots to the more recent immigration from Europe from about 1850 to 1920. However the Maddox family is one of those which arrived in the very beginningin the 1600's. This is a very colorful story set in the beginning of American History. You'll read about more than a few famous names and see pictures associated with your ancestors. Read on to find out about sailing adventure, war with Indians, religious battles, revolution and provincial politics, and the beginning of a very large familyyour family. The Early Maryland Maddoxes Samuel Maddox (abt 1644-1683) was born in Wales and he arrived aboard ship in 1665, landing at Maryland's Chesapeake Bay in the settlement which was known as St Mary's City not far from what is now Washington D.C. Specifically, this line settled on the Potomac River side of the western shore pininsula. Samuel's oldest son, Notley Sr. married Margaret Gerard Goldsmith. The Gerard Family was one of the most prestigious and colorful among Maryland's early settlers, and financiers of the original 1634 expedition of the ships

Our family is descended from John King, who lived in Prince Georges County, MD in the mid-1700's.
My KING family page has information on the Kings in Maryland, up to my father, James F. King. You may read the gedcom online or save it as a text document.
My PROUT Family page contains information about the Prouts of southern Maryland, mainly in Anne Arundel and Calvert Counties. But it's a long and varied history, with many broken links and even a witch! So peruse at your leisure. Again, the gedcom may be read online or saved as a text file.
