General Information Throughout the history of Suffolk University, it has been the general policy to encourage and foster education for students of limited means. Our commitment to the goal of keeping higher education affordable is apparent in the University's policy of maintaining tuition costs substantially below those of other private institutions of higher learning in the New England area. Even so, the cost of higher education represents a significant financial burden for many families. In an attempt to help alleviate this burden, there are four sources of financial aid available at Suffolk University: the federal government the state government the University , and private sources.
Federal programs include grants, low interest loans, and employment programs. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts awards loans and grants to state residents who demonstrate financial need. The University and private agencies/organizations award scholarships, grants and loans to needy students. Financial aid awards are made to assist students in financing the cost of education when their personal and family resources are not sufficient. Hence, most funding is awarded on the basis of demonstrated need. Merit based funding is also available through selected programs. Any undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in a degree or certificate program for at least six credit hours may apply for financial aid consideration (undergraduate students enrolled in only 3 credits per semester may apply for a

    Comparing State Educational Resources
    -An Overview-
The factors described before influence school quality and effectiveness in every state, but as you are probably aware, public school systems differ in certain ways from one state to another. The most obvious differences are due, of course, to the variations in states' resources. For example, Connecticut has a much higher tax base than Louisiana, and consequently, can make more dollars available for instructional materials, teacher salaries, and facilities. You may not know about the differences stemming from the diverse ways that states organize their school systems. For example, in most states each town has its own school system, but in Florida, Georgia, and West Virginia (among others), schools are organized on a COUNTYWIDE basis. As a result, the school systems in those states tend to be very large, both geographically and in numbers of students. Consequently, if a family moves from Massachusetts to Florida, children may experience culture shock in the new school system. Accustomed back home to a small system in which officials were easy to contact, the family will now have to learn to cope with a large educational bureaucracy. Even the terms school officials use can vary from state to state. For example, not every state uses the term SCHOOL DISTRICT or SCHOOL SYSTEM. In Virginia, school systems are called DIVISIONS; in Louisiana, they are known as PARISHES. In Indiana, some schools are known as CORPORATIONS, while in Texas great pride is taken in distinguishing school systems as INDEPENDENT, and New York uses the term FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT. Moreover, in over a dozen states some school systems are identified by number as frequently as by a name.

    Marriages at Easton, Massachusetts, 1725–1802

These records of Easton were abstracted in 1942 by Lester Card, of Norwalk, Connecticut, from a copy of town records made by a town clerk fifty years earlier. Card cautions that "at least two of the pastors of the Easton Churches entered all feminine members of their parish as Mrs. whether they were maid, wife or widow. Therefore, all entries marked as Mrs. should be given careful consideration." Easton, Massachusetts, located in the northeast corner of Bristol County, was established in 1725. This area was originally part of the Taunton North-Purchase of 1668. Many boundary line disputes followed the purchase, some of which were not completely settled until 1772. In 1711 the north precinct of Taunton was incorporated as the town of Norton, and in 1722, the east precinct of Norton was established. In 1725, this precinct was incorporated as the town of Easton, an abbreviated form of "east of Norton."
