The town of Wenham, originally called Enon, was part of the first settlement in Essex County in 1628. Wenham, Beverly, Manchester, Marblehead, Danvers, Topsfield, and part of Lynn were originally part of Salem. It is about 20 miles north of Boston. It is bounded by Hamilton, Beverly, Danvers, and Topsfield.

First Church in Wenham
First Church in Wenham was organized in 1644. The church website contains some really nice history; however, the site has been down for the last few months. I will include a link on this page if the site comes back up again.
Cemeteries

The Wenham Cemetery is located on Route 1A, about half a mile from the center of town, next to the Wenham Golf Course. There are many very old gravestones in the front part of the cemetery, some recording deaths in the early 1700's. Some of these pictures can be viewed at www.geocities.com/wenhamcemetery/index.htm Fairfield Family Burial Ground - Photographs and inscriptions from an old family burial ground.

You may start at the beginning with JOHN HEYWOOD , or you may scroll down to the surname index to look up a certain person. The pages with dark purple background are my direct ancestors. Genealogy is my avocation. The following webpages are my primary interests. I spend hours doing research on primary and secondary sources. I can usually be found in a library, historical society or cemetery. I try to update these pages monthly. Remember, I am human (perhaps unfortunate), and I occasionally make mistakes or I make available, information from sources that are not always reliable. Please VERIFY all information from PRIMARY sources, whenever possible. Sources are available, when known, upon request.
