83. Analytic Solution For The Burgers Equation
Provides the general analytic solution for the Burgers equation in the form of a 4D commutative hypercomplex function. The solution exhibits the main dynamic features in a Burgers medium propagation of disturbances, shock waves, propagating state change fronts, and solitons. A page is included to explain the hypercomplex mathematics.

The General Analytical Solution for the Burgers Equation
Clyde M. Davenport
cmdaven@usit.net Introduction Hypercomplex Solution Elementary Properties Conclusions
Introduction The Burgers equation is a nonlinear partial differential equation of second order, as follows: It is used in fluid dynamics teaching and in engineering as a simplified model for turbulence, boundary layer behavior, shock wave formation, and mass transport. It has been studied and applied for many decades. Many different closed-form, series approximation, and numerical solutions are known for particular sets of boundary conditions. Top In the following, we shall be applying commutative hypercomplex mathematics. This is a system of mathematics that obeys the axioms of the classical complex variables and behaves in all ways like the classical complex analysis, while treating a 4-D independent variable. Refer to the Hypercomplex Math page for details. We shall present something new in the form of the general analytical solution for the Burgers equation in terms of commutative hypercomplex mathematics. We shall show that, unlike for linear partial differential equations, there is not a variety of eigenfunctions from which a solution may be constructed in a variety of ways, but only one characteristic function that satisfies the equation when analyticity is required. The solution will be presented as an analytic function of one 4-D variable and as a complementary pair of functions of a classical complex variable.

If you have taken the math placement exam, the math department has your score. If you pass the exam, you get 3 hours credit for MS 101 , and you have satisfied the general math requirement. If you do not pass the exam, you may take and pass any 100-level math course. You must take the placement exam before registering for calculus or precalculus. It will help you decide where to start. It takes an hour or less and can be graded by the next day. The placement exam is given at SOAR and FOCUS, or in the math office. See Nancy Wilton for an appointment (ext. 7545).

Answer

My specialty is editing of mathematics, science, and other technical material (also, writing of solutions to math problems), though I cheerfully edit documents on virtually any subject. In nearly everything I read, I notice errors or inconsistencies, even when I don't set out to look for them! My eagle eye easily spots errors in spelling, punctuation, and grammar as I edit for accuracy and clarity of content. The value I add to your document will go a long way toward helping you avoid having your readers find fault with your work!
