Site 2 - How Far is it? http://www.indo.com/distance/
This site deals with standard measures of distance. The children can enter any two places and be given the distance as the crow flies between them. This information might then be used in a number of different ways. The children might calculate average travelling times if they were to make the journey by car/ ship or plane (or a combination of the three). They might also use an atlas or globe to plan a trip around the world and work out the distances of each part of the journey. They might compare the distances if they chose different 'stopping off' places. Site 3 - Bargain's Galore http://www.bbc.co.uk/education/dynamo/den/index.shtml
This site has a number of mathematical activities including 'Money Snap', 'Clockwise' and 'Matching Time' as well as 'Bargain's Galore'. It would be worth taking time to allow the children to explore each of these areas. The games are structured with different levels and so there should be something in each game that's appropriate for everyone in your class. 'Bargain's Galore' is about using the correct number of coins to buy a toy displayed on a conveyor belt. Children may need first to practice paying the exact amount for different items using plastic coins.

    ENGLISH
The English curriculum develops optimum language skills through its balanced scope and sequence. Each level moves students step by step, continually building on traditional grammar and usage concepts. On-going review and testing provide regular evaluation of the student's progress in thinking, reading, and writing skills. Each unit integrates biblical and character-building principles. Grade Level 3 This level concentrates on verbal skills. The material covers types of sentences, parts of speech, confusing word pairs, and simple punctuation. Cursive writing is emphasized so that the student may achieve penmanship excellence. the child expands his knowledge of poems and rhyming words, and creative writing is encouraged.
Grade Level 4 - This level covers three basic sentence types with an emphasis on usage and the writing process. The student studies nouns, verbs, and other parts of speech along with more confusing word pairs. The material touches on proper telephone manners and the writing of friendly and business letters.
Grade Level 5 - Level 5 includes exercises and review of capitalization, punctuation , and sentence structure. The eight parts of speech are covered more extensively as well as synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, and heteronyms. the student learns sentence diagraming, agreement of subject and verb, conjugation, and sentence elements. Letter writing and dictionary work are also a part of this course.

Find calculators and flashcards plus tools for converting kilometers to miles, Roman numerals to Arabic, and fractions to decimals. Included: Simple activities to help you use these on-line math tools! Do your students think that math can't be done without a calculator? Have they forgotten how to convert Fahrenheit to Celsius? No matter what they do or don't remember, students will find this collection of on-line math tools both enlightening and useful. Encourage your students to trace the history of the calculator, to figure the area of a cube, to find the day's Celsius temperature, to work a slide rule or invite them to try some of the activities we've provided. LANGUAGE ARTS T he language arts program is introduced as a daily main lesson, with a continuous flow from one skill to the next, so that a "building-block" effect is achieved as students add new skills and experiences onto their already existing knowledge. The use of classic and contemporary multicultural literature, music and foreign language provides a rich experience. The oral tradition is fostered through storytelling, puppet shows and creative dramatics. Kindergarten P re-reading skills are developed through activities that enhance the child's visual, auditory, tactile and kinesthetic perception. The alphabet and beginning phonics are introduced through artistic activities, rhymes and song in a way that engages the child's natural curiosity and prompts the use of their imagination. S tudents continue to work with the upper case alphabet and are introduced to the lower case alphabet through the use of various stories, poems, games and artistic activities. There is an emphasis on reading (decoding) skills, as well as on auditory and reading comprehension, expansion of vocabulary and spelling skills, creative writing and artistic expression, storytelling, and participation in both individual and whole group communication as both speaker and listener.
