... Web-Master Tips - Relic Hunters Survival Kit
I was asked recently by a couple of our club members to come up with a "survival kit" for folks that relic hunt. Here's what Julia and I do. I carry a back pack. If I'm not going to far from the car, I'll leave it in the trunk and of course if I'm pretty far back in the woods, I'll wear it. This leaves my hands free to carry my equipment. After I reach a site, I simply hang it in a tree. Don't leave it on the ground. Now, what's in the backpack you ask? The following is a list of items that we feel essential.
  • food - either some fruit and snacks or your lunch
  • water - soda, etc.
  • extra batteries - a must
  • roll of electrical tape
  • extra digging tools - knife - snips (to cut small roots) etc.
  • small flashlight
  • roll of toilet paper - just in case
  • topo maps of the area you intend to hunt
  • aspirin - chap stick - matches - band aids, etc. (put all of these in a baggie)
  • small repair kit - screw driver, pliers, etc.

Class Ring Returned after 37 years Getting Permission and Hunting Private Homes ... EMAIL Donna Quote: "If you look like your passport picture, you probably need the trip!" ...Anon. What is it like to use a metal detector in the fields of England, unearthing over twenty centuries of lost treasures? For eight years I have joined Jimmy "Sierra" Normandi and other Americans on a metal detecting adventure to the fields of England. Our groups have searched private land to uncover ancient artifacts and coins from the Bronze Age through Celtic, Roman, Medieval and Modern times. In some cases the items found were historically significant enough that English history could actually be rewritten! Let me show you my vacation of a lifetime! Hello and welcome to my treasure hunting Web site. I have enjoyed metal detecting on and off since 1982. Please take look around my site, I have some tips, information on local places to detect as well as a bit of local lore about South West Florida.
My first detector (back in 1982) was a White's Coinmaster TR, it had one knob and no discrimination but it whetted my appetite for metal detecting. Now 20 years later I still enjoy hitting the beach or park like I did back then, full of anticipation on what I will find next.
If you have any comments, suggestions or also detect in SouthWest Florida please send me a message from my Contact page , I would like to hear from you!
Detecting on Vacation
In August 2002 my wife and I took a trip to Canada to visit relatives, while there I was able to get out a few times with my XLT. Abandoned farm sites, old schools and little used churches are everywhere up there. Here is a picture of me detecting an abandoned farm site. Although it looks like a prime spot it was really tough detecting, tall grass, rock hard soil, tons of junk and high temperatures (in the 90's).
