Career History I graduated from Willowbrook High School in Villa Park, Illinois in the spring of 1963. I then went to undergraduate school at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree ( Meteorology major) in the spring of 1967. During my last two summers in Madison, I worked as a student trainee at the Weather Bureau (what the National Weather Service was called way back then!) in Madison. After graduation, I spent the first of 2-1/2 summers working as a student trainee at the National Severe Storms Forecast Center (NSSFC), in Kansas City, Missouri. I began graduate school in the fall of 1967 at the University of Oklahoma (OU), finishing my Master of Science degree (in Meteorology ) in January of 1969. During my third summer at NSSFC, my name was called for military service and I entered the Army in August of 1969. After boot camp at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and "training" at Fort Gordon, Georgia, I spent 11 months in Phu Bai, Viet Nam as a communications clerk (it's a long ugly story). However, after Viet Nam, I was assigned to the Atmospheric Sciences Laboratory at White Sands Missile Range , in New Mexico, where I worked on fog modeling (!).

Choosing a career in Atmospheric Sciences What is Meteorology? Meteorology is the science of the atmosphere. It offers the opportunity of investigating the forces that shape weather and climate and how human activities can affect climate through the introduction of pollutants into the atmosphere. Employment Most meteorologists in Canada work for the Atmospheric Environment Program of Environment Canada. In the United States the largest employer is the United States Government through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. With the federal government in Canada withdrawing from many of its traditional meteorological functions, some weather services are being abandoned while others are being opened up for commercial development. Despite the downturn in government services and employment, students interested in meteorology should view the future with a fair degree of optimism. A university degree in meteorology, combined with appropriate courses in environmental sciences, computer science and/or chemistry, opens the door to a number of careers, some within the government, others in industry. The atmosphere plays a major role in transporting pollutants from one region of the globe to another, and, as such, is a key component of our environment. Eller building with meteorology and geography , giving our students easy access to colleagues and other students working on climate-related problems, air-sea interaction, and geographic-information systems. The oceanography department operates the R/V Gyre , a 182-foot oceanographic research vessel outfitted for deep-sea studies. The ship carries a crew of 10 and a scientific party of 23 and has a cruising range of 8,000 miles. FACULTY OF PHYSICS AND METEOROLOGY Faculty of Physics and Meteorology of the University of Belgrade is the high education and scientific institution that consists of the Department of Physics and the Department of Meteorology. It was founded in 1990 as an independent institution by separating from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics founded in 1947. Before this faculty was a part of the Faculty of Philosophy where the teaching of physics started in 19th century.
