About Us
Relocating Expanding ... Investors Home The Santa Fe Plan:
The Cluster Approach to Economic Gardening

SFEDI has adopted The Santa Fe Plan: A Cluster Approach to Economic Gardening as its long-term strategy for economic prosperity. Economic Gardening is the process by which resources are provided to help grow local entrepreneurs. This is in contrast to economic hunting whereby the community's precious resources are used to attract outside companies to relocate. Although economic hunting is good for local communities with high unemployment, economic gardening is better for communities that face underemployment or for those dependent on a single industry. By focusing first on local businesses, SFEDI will help create the business environment that allows entrepreneurs to create jobs for the community. The cluster approach recognizes that in the new economy, the challenge is for a community to become more competitive. SFEDI is implementing a four step process to help existing clusters in Santa Fe become more competitive. These steps are cluster identification, cluster activation, cluster support, and cluster expansion. For the progress of this implementation plan see
