Center for Insurance and Risk Management Studies
History The Center for Insurance and Risk Management Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is concerned with public policy affecting the insurance industry and, more generally, risk management in society. Funding for the creation of the Center was provided by a grant from the George B. Cook Ameritas Financial Services Program in Life Insurance. The funding is in memory of the late George B. Cook, chief executive officer of Ameritas. The Center exists, in part because the College of Business recognizes the importance of the insurance industry to the State. Mission Members Richard A. De Fusco , Associate Professor of Finance, BUSINESS FINANCE AND INVESTMENTS, INTERNATIONAL FINANCE, B.S. 1977, M.B.A. 1979 (both from the university of Rhode Island), Ph.D. 1985 (University of Tennessee). Recent publications: Journal of Finance, Financial Review.

By Martin A. Lee, '75, Little Brown and Co. , Livingston NJ, 1996, $24.95 hardcover.
The beast that Martin A. Lee tracks from what at first seemed to be its tomb but turned out to be its lair, is fascism. Violent, totalitarian, racist and yet romantically populist, fascism arose in Western Europe this century. The Allies at first agreed to curb and crush the movement after the defeat of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. Lee shows, however, how the Cold War gave fascists the room and financial resources they needed to survive and maneuver between the US and Soviet Union. Lee interviewed hundreds of original fascists and their offspring and pored over mounds of European and US intelligence reports. The result is a gripping and unsettling history that traces the direct links between the first-generation fascists and current varieties that include Russian national-communists to European skinheads and right-wing politicians, and also American extremists in militia, religious, news media, political and white-supremacist groups. Lee discussed his book with Michigan Today Michigan Today: How did you come to write this book?

    • A bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field is the minimum academic preparation, but many employers increasingly seek graduates with a master's degree. The increasing need for financial expertise will spur employment growth.
Nature of the Work About this section Back to Top Almost every firm, government agency, and organization has one or more financial managers who oversee the preparation of financial reports, direct investment activities, and implement cash management strategies. As computers are increasingly used to record and organize data, many financial managers are spending more time developing strategies and implementing the long-term goals of their organization. The duties of financial managers vary with their specific titles, which include controller, treasurer, credit manager, and cash manager.

    • Nebraska
    • North Dakota
What is the Midwest Student Exchange Program?
The Midwest Student Exchange Program (MSEP) was established by the Midwestern Higher Education Commission to increase interstate educational opportunities for students in its member states. The program enables residents of Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska , and North Dakota to enroll in participating institutions and their selected programs (see below for list of programs at MU) at reduced tuition levels. Students gain a more affordable opportunity to attend an out-of-state institution, while participating institutions gain increased enrollment efficiency in programs with excess capacity.
    Tuition Costs
Actual savings through MSEP vary from institution to institution. An MSEP student at MU pays 150 percent of the institution's regular resident tuition plus any required fees. For example, University of Missouri resident tuition and fees for school year '02-'03 are $173.65 per credit hour. Non-resident tuition and fees for '02-'03 are $478.75 per credit hour. MSEP tuition and fees are $260.48 per credit hour a sizable savings over non-resident tuition. (Tuition and fees may be revised in future years.)
Students retain their MSEP status as long as they remain enrolled in a participating degree program, maintain residency in a participating state, and make satisfactory progress toward program completion. MSEP status is revoked if a student changes to a non-participating degree program.
