Statement of Goals and Objectives for the Ph.D. Program: Department of Microbiology
The Department of Microbiology at Miami University has maintained a strong commitment to providing an education of the very highest quality to its doctoral, master's and baccalaureate students in microbiology. In defining this mission the department established two broad areas of emphasis for both the curricular and research programs for its doctoral students - Host-Pathogen Interactions and Genetics and Physiology of Microorganisms . As microorganisms have come to play an increasingly important role in biotechnology development and utilization in industry and basic research and as the threat of emerging and drug-resistant pathogenic microorganisms increases for the world population, such emphases in the education of our doctoral students have been significantly validated. In recent years, the department has added the area of environmental microbiology to these doctoral curricular and research opportunities for our graduate students. There are twelve graduate faculty in the Department of Microbiology, 26 graduate students at the present time, and three postdoctoral positions which are continuously supported via departmental Academic Challenge funding. Additional postdoctoral and graduate student support has been acquired through external grant funding awarded to the graduate faculty. The faculty work closely with their graduate students and postdoctoral fellows with the common goal of carrying out research of high quality which will result in publication of their work in refereed journals, in turn leading to significant research funding from foundations, industry and federal agencies. The faculty and students of the Department of Microbiology have been highly successful in achieving these goals in recent years.

I currently teach Biochemical Engineering, Advanced Analytical Biochemistry and Horticultural Engineering at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. I'm into web-based education and fermentation technology. Ikeep fish and enjoy working with computers. Why not check out my pages on Corydoras Biochemistry and Biochemical Engineering I am interested in history and cosmology. I also run and swim. I used to be the web master of the web pages for the School for Life Sciences and Chemical Technology . I've also written a couple for other people including Singapore Hydroponics (currently off-line) and the Singapore Society for Microbiology and Biotechnology Here's some more about me....

Course Information
I teach several different courses here at CCSU. Here's a short description of my courses:
  • Bio 316, Microbiology
I usually teach Bio 316, Microbiology, every semester and once during the summer. This Spring (2003), Microbiology lecture meets MWF from 1:00 - 2:00 pm in Copernicus Hall Rm 22404, and lab meets R from 11:00 to 1:50 pm in Copernicus Hall Rm 306. Click on the link for complete course details. Bio 111, Introductory Biology
I also usually teach one section of Bio 111, Introductory Biology, in the Spring that's open to all students. However, this Spring (2003), I am not teaching this course. My fall semester of Bio 111 is usually an FYE offering, open only to first year students. This link describes my Spring 2000 version of Bio 111. Bio 111, Introductory Biology FYE

Ron Goddard I have been a participant of all of the Out West experiences. I am a chemistry and ecology teacher at Waldron High School. I have a BS in Fish and Wildlife Management from Arkansas Tech University (1974) as well as a Masters in Science Education (1986). After 15 years as a football coach at Atkins and Waldron High Schools, I have spent the past 11 years as a fulltime classroom teacher. My students and I are involved in several birding and ecology related research projects. Dr. Randall Adams My degrees are in Entomology from Oklahoma State University with some 60+ hrs of course work beyond the Ph.D. at New Mexico State University, Stephen F. Austin University, University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, and Southern Arkansas University. I teach entomology, plant science, and economic courses. I have been a SAU for 26 years. I supervise the greenhouse and grow vegetables each year for sale by the Department. I have worked on nematodes of turf and forage grasses. I am currently involved in a EPA project to revegated the oil and salt affected soils in south Arkansas. I enjoy travel, collecting plants and especially arthropods. Dr. Henry Robison
