It also an area of study that plays a pivotal role in understanding other life science disciplines, such as medicine, agriculture, ecology, and pharmacy. Studies in cloning, recombinant DNA technology, and gene sequencing are part of the program. The Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology is affiliated with both the Faculty of Medicine located near the Ottawa Hospital, General Campus and the Faculty of Science located on the main campus of the university. Its faculty consists of 20 regular, 50 cross-appointed and 21 adjunct members conducting research in a wide variety of areas in which specialized training for M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees can be obtained.
