These agencies can provide information, assistance with photo and flier production and distribution, referral services, and investigative resources to you, your family, and law enforcement. Private Resources National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) NCMEC serves a variety of functions:
  • Distribution of pictures and posters of missing children nationwide.
  • Provision of information and technical assistance to citizens.
  • Provision of training, technical assistance, and technical support to State missing children's clearinghouses and to State and local law enforcement agencies.
You can call NCMEC to get copies of its intake and release forms mailed or sent to you via fax and to get information on how you can have a color picture of your child posted on NCMEC's Web site, distributed to NCMEC's photo partners, and printed on fliers for you to distribute. RESEARCH AND RESOURCES Faith-Community Based Supportive Service Programs Anne Arundel County, MD Maryland has instituted a program that allows churches to "adopt" willing welfare recipients and assume control of their benefits. The county has a program for recruiting houses of worship as sponsors of a family on welfare. The faith-based organization agrees to be a sponsor and receives a six-month lump sum of the family's cash assistance in place of what the family would ordinarily receive. The sponsor then helps the family use the assistance wisely to get back on the road to self-sufficiency. The sponsoring organization receives no fees to help cover administrative costs, so it is purely voluntary on the part of the organization. Specifically, Anne Arundel County doesn't pay churches, but it allows them to use county money to help welfare recipients. Genesis Jobs, supported by the Episcopal Church of the Guardian Angel, has been successful in finding jobs for low-income workers. It has scrimped and scraped for funds from private donors, refusing to seek government money. Now for the first time, the state has been referring some job-seekers to Genesis Jobs and has asked Genesis Jobs to train some of its workers, using federal funds. "This new turn of events appears to allow us to be flexible and innovative. The doors have been opened," says Emily Thayer, Director of Genesis Jobs.

Division of Management Information Systems General Information
Aggressively responding to the nationwide mandate for reducing government bureaucracy while enhancing supportive services to our clients, the Mississippi Department of Human Services' (MDHS), Division of Management Information Systems (MIS) is expanding its support structures into the mainstream applications in production throughout the Agency. MIS supports the various Divisions which, in turn, provides cost effective services to needy individuals and strives to educate its clients to reduce their dependency on social and financial support programs. MIS supports MDHS's varied computerized applications systems with a staff of programmer analysts, business analysts, database administrators, operators and other technical personnel. The Temporary Assistance for Needy Family (TANF), previously known as AFDC, and the Food Stamp programs, as well as the determination of eligibility for the State's Medicaid program, are supported by the Mississippi Applications Verification Eligibility Reporting Information and Control System (MAVERICS). MAVERICS supports interfaces and exchanges data with private, State and Federal agencies daily, providing real time information. The latest policies are implemented into MAVERICS and deployed statewide, ensuring case workers are kept abreast of the most current policies. The EBT project is one of the key initiatives currently underway requiring several system enhancements throughout the Agency, especially in the financial and interface components.
