No. 97-9 GPO AND THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI LIBRARIES GOVERNMENT AND BUSINESS INFORMATION SERVICES OPEN FREE WEB LINK TO FEDERAL INFORMATION The U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) has opened the first "gateway" site in Mississippi giving the public access to many of the Nation's most important Federal documents via an Internet connection to the GPO Access services. The Congressional Record, Federal Register, Congressional Bills, Code of Federal Regulations, Commerce Business Daily, Budget of the United States, and other Federal databases are now available to off-site users on the same day of publication through the Gateway. The library, one in the Nation's system of nearly 1,400 Federal depository libraries, is offering public access to the GPO databases as part of an expanding gateway program. "We believe the public should have timely access to vital information about the activities of their Government without charge," says head of the GPO, Public Printer Michael F. DiMario. "Further, it is our goal to establish local outlets to the GPO electronic system in every State. We want these important Government publications available to the American public around the clock, 7 days a week." The University of Mississippi Libraries Government and Business Information Services GPO Access Gateway is the twenty-first electronic pathway to GPO Access accessible via the World Wide Web. Users may access the gateway by pointing their web browser to:

The library at the University of Virginia has had William Faulkner's jacket for a while, but to see it and other Faulknerian fashions, you'll have to visit the " Most Faulknerian " exhibit , a small part of the library's "The Most of Special Collections" exhibit—among the items you can see are Faulkner's report card, typewriter, and a brick from the post office where he (briefly) "worked" But more significant, probably, are Faulkner's personal papers , most of which he bequeathed to the University of Virginia, and today The William Faulkner Collections at UVa represent the largest single holding of Faulkner papers, manuscripts, typescripts, letters, photographs, documents, books, and other items.
