GreenSheets
Keyword Searches for Horticultural FactSheets Here are all the places I go to when I want "just the facts!" Start at the top and work your way downyou should find the answer to your gardening question or problem. I don't try the larger databases until last because I have found that if I go directly to the sites they catalog, I always find other topics that aren't exactly what I was looking forbut are interesting just the same! If you are a southern gardener use Aggie Horticulture, FAIRS in Florida, or Missouri first then the WebGarden which catalogs several southern extension services. If you find any non-working sites, please write me at tlyockey@geocities.com I have also listed some sites at the bottom of this page that have factsheets that aren't searchable, but are available for downloading or reading. Note! Many of the publications are in Adobe Acrobat format. You will need an Acrobat reader to view and print them. You will also need to configure your WWW reader to use Acrobat as a helper application. Follow this link to obtain the free reader and for instructions on configuring your WWW software.

FORT COLLINS - Team members from Plant talk Colorado TM , the statewide automated telephone service that provides answers to Rocky Mountain region Gardening questions, have been honored by Colorado State University Cooperative Extension. Members received the "Team Award," presented each year to honor a group that has cooperated to solve a critical need in Colorado. The award was given at Cooperative Extension's annual awards banquet, Sept. 28, in Fort Collins. Members of the Plant talk team include Cooperative Extension agents and specialists, as well as representatives from Colorado's 'green industry.' In the two-and-a-half years since Plant talk , began, in February, 1998, the system has chalked up more than 40,000 telephone calls and 330,000 hits on its website. The system features 400 taped messages covering Gardening issues that range from growing annuals to installing Xeriscapes. The messages are accessed by calling a toll-free number, 1-888-666-3063. Horticulturists from Cooperative Extension and Colorado's Green Industry collaborated to write the scripts. New scripts are added each year, and existing scripts are updated as research reflects changes in horticultural practices. Plant talk represents a unique approach. Other states - Minnesota, Nebraska and Missouri, for example - offer call-in Gardening tip lines. None, however, is the result of three, often competing, entities working together.

New Generation Cooperatives: What, Why, Where, and How An Internet Guide Printer Friendly Version Michelle Schank and Joan Fulton
Michelle Schank is a Graduate Research Assistant and Joan Fulton is an Associate Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics As consolidation and the industrialization of agriculture intensify, the food chain is experiencing significant structural changes.  Increased concentration and increased vertical coordination are occurring as businesses in the agrifood sector are trying to increase efficiencies, relay information along the supply chain more quickly, and take advantage of profits at other stages of the food chain.  Many agricultural producers are responding to the changing environment by cooperating with other producers to develop value-added businesses.  One common organizational form that producers are using for the value-added business is the New Generation Cooperative. This Internet Guide is intended to be a resource for locating electronically available information on New Generation Cooperatives.  In the following sections we provide a brief explanation of the What, Why, Where, and How of New Generation Cooperatives, along with related references to publications and other information that is available on the internet. Multiflora Rose (Rosa multiflora Thunb. ex Murray)
Species Character
DESCRIPTION
Multiflora rose is a medium height, thorny, bushy shrub with a more spreading than erect
growth form. Leaves are born alternately on the stems and divided into 5-11 leaflets (usually 7-9). Each leaflet is broadly oval and toothed along its margin. Clusters of numerous, white
flowers, three-quarter to one and one-half inches (1.9-3.8 cm) across, bloom in late spring. The fruits are small,
firm, red hips that may remain on the plant well into winter. Older rose shrubs may obtain a
height of 15 feet (4.6 meters) or more with a root crown diameter of 8 inches (20 cm).
SIMILAR SPECIES
Multiflora rose can be distinguished from Missouri's native roses by the presence of a feathery
or comb-like margin on the narrow stipules (a green, leaf like structure found at the base of
each leaf stalk). Missouri's native rose species all have stipules at the base of the leaf stalk, but
their stipules do not have feathery margins. Multiflora rose can also be distinguished from
