Sara Jian Lopez Medicaid Waiver
The Sara Jian Lopez Medicaid Waiver allows access to funding for appropriate care and support for children with developmental disabilities so they may continue living at home with their families. Medicaid guidelines require parental income and resources be considered for children who live at home, but allow such income and resources to be disregarded for children who live out of the home, in an institution, a group home, or in other residential settings. The family of Sara Jian Lopez, who was born with developmental disabilities, lobbied the Missouri General Assembly to change some of the requirements in the Medicaid program. The waiver, which went into effect in 1996, is named after Sara, who died at the age of five. The waiver allows parental income and resources to be disregarded for permanently and totally disabled children living at home who otherwise would require services at an institution.

LOOKING FOR STUDENTS FOR INTERNSHIPS OR EMPLOYMENT?
WANT TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL? SOCAP International has compiled a list of colleges and universities that offer programs that prepare students for careers in contact centers. Whether you are looking for students to employ or thinking of going back to school yourself, this list will be an invaluable resource and will make your search effortless. Here, we have gathered all the information in one place for easy access. This resource identifies both undergraduate and graduate programs that may be of interest for career enhancement or for getting the right level of education for the position. Customer Contact Centers are an area of increasing importance in business. The primary responsibility of contact center professionals is to champion the consumer's viewpoint to their employing organization and to convey information about the organization's products and services to the consumer. Students in these programs develop the ability to analyze issues from the perspectives of consumers, business and government and learn how to communicate these issues to management. This information can be used to learn about programs in higher education in order to hire new staff, and to send staff for further training. It is hoped that the report will assist in identification of programs in your vicinity, so you can consider development of a mentoring or consulting relationship. If there are other programs or institutions that are not included in the list, please contact SOCAP International so that they can be added.

For Immediate Release April 27, 2000 MOSTARS finds college graduates less likely to default on student loans COLUMBIA - Students who complete degrees or remain continuously enrolled in college are less likely to default on their student loans, according to Missouri Department of Higher Education research that was presented at MOSTARS' third annual Default Prevention and Debt Management Conference held April 26-27. The ongoing research, which is the first of its kind in Missouri, will be used to create a profile of the typical defaulted borrower, including characteristics such as the type of school the student attends and the student's program of study. The study examined all 202,140 students who were enrolled in Missouri public two-year and four-year colleges and universities in the fall of 1992. Of this total, 64,431 students borrowed a total of 231,287 student loans. Of those student loan borrowers who completed degrees or remained continuously enrolled for eight semesters, 4.24 percent defaulted. However, of those borrowers who dropped out, did not complete degrees or did not remain continuously enrolled, 16.99 percent defaulted on their loans. Of the total defaulted borrowers, more than 80 percent were students who did not complete degrees, while less than 5 percent were associate-degree graduates, and about 11 percent were baccalaureate-degree graduates.
