ACADEMICS IN THE NATURAL WORLD
Academics is the primary focus of WRFI courses. Our courses seek to understand the complex relationship between ecological processes and human actions. To varying degrees within each course, we study local ecology, policies that dictate land management, and ethics that determine our relationship to the land. We promote rigorous interdisciplinary learning through a diversity of readings, discussions and experiences. On our courses, you will have the opportunity to question local land managers, survey impacted ecosystems, and explore alternative philosophies for living on the land. We will encourage you to integrate your knowledge and experiences and to identity the connections between issues in ways that go beyond the boundaries of traditional education.

Montana Water's Education pages currently focus on two areas: 1) training opportunities for water operators and professionals, and 2) water education for the general public and the K-12 education system. Training opportunities for water professionals
Training of water system operators and professionals is vital to the maintenance of Montana's expanding rural and municipal water systems. In order to keep our water safe and drinkable, water professionals must keep up with the latest advances in technology, testing procedures, and regulations. This site provides resources to those professionals. Water Education
Educating ourselves and our children about water issues such as conservation, watershed management, wetlands, and the water environment is critical to understanding the role we must play in keeping our water clean and safe. This site provides resources to educate the general public, children in grades K-12, and their teachers. Links

Lifelong learners have the capacity and propensity to think skillfully in many modes and to communicate with precision and sensitivity. They rely upon a broad background of knowledge of the many ways humans come to know, express themselves, act in the world, and find meaning in life. The general education curriculum is designed both to promote the thinking and communication skills which support lifelong learning and to facilitate increased absorption of that broad background knowledge whereby persons come to understand themselves, others, and the world. In recognition that many courses in majors, minors, and other segments of requirements in degree programs are included in the listing of specific General Education courses which follows, students may use certain courses within their programs to meet both General Education and the other degree requirements. However, the number of credits actually taken may be counted only once toward meeting total graduation requirements. Also, no single course is allowed to count in more than one category within the General Education component.

    Living in Montana
Nestled between the Great Plains and the Rocky Mountains lies Montana's largest city - Billings. Billings began as a town of shacks and tents scattered along the alkali flats of the Yellowstone River. By 1882, Billings was linked with the rest of civilization when the Northern Pacific Railroad arrived. Fertile soil, plenty of land and transportation attracted thousands of settlers seeking freedom and fortune. Billings grew so fast, it became known as the "Magic City." Adventurers still come to Billings in search of the good life. They discover Billings' modern-day magic results from a growing economy, affordable housing and quality education. Growing Economy
Billings' diversified economy is built on agriculture, livestock, tourism, distribution and energy industries. People from throughout Montana, Wyoming and the Dakotas come to Billings for shopping, health care and education. Throughout the years, Billings economic base has continued to expand, diversify and strengthen. The Billings Chamber of Commerce anticipates that during the next decade, Billings will continue to experience steady growth and an expanded economic base.

    http://www.mtche.org/
The Montana Coalition of Home Educators came together in 1988 as a cooperative effort of many individuals, organizations, and support groups in the state. The goal was to bring homeschoolers together to protect Montana's home school freedom while maintaining the independence and autonomy of the individual families and the existing local and state organizations. To accomplish this goal, a loose network of these groups, individuals and organizations was formed. An executive committee was selected to serve as a central clearinghouse for information, to set up and maintain a communication network, to watch for political and legal threats to Montana's freedom, and to inform homeschoolers and suggest possible actions to meet those threats. MCHE was founded on the basic principles of responsibility and respect. Respect for the right and responsibility of parents to direct the education of their children was the motivation for forming a network for defending that right. Parents were encouraged to exercise personal responsibility for their families by determining for themselves what method of home education would work best for them. Respect for diversity and differences of opinions was encouraged. All parents and groups who wanted to be a part of the Coalition were encouraged to exercise their personal responsibility in defending home education freedom through public relations with legislators and local community, and by being involved with lobbying, hearings, letter writing and other actions needed.
