But this photography does capture an essence of who we once were. In some of the art, I have borrowed elements of this photography not to show The Spirit of who we once were only to show The Spirit of where we are heading as our past guides us. Tips and advice on displaying native american artifacts, a photo gallery of collections, and a place to give advice and display your collection.
http://www.geocities.com/diabutsu_place/index.html
Great Native American Artifact Display Page     Do you collect Native American Artifacts?  What is the difference between a good collection and a great collection?  Answer,  the presentation of the collection.
I was taught a little kid that a great presentation of a partial collection would be remembered longer and talked about more than a great collection in a box in the closet, or thrown together with no thought behind it.
I have watched the auctions going up on eBay lately, and it saddens me to see these great collections thrown together in poor display, these are such beautiful artifact's.  The first part of artifact is art. Therefor it should be displayed in such a manner.
There are many different views on how artifacts should be displayed.  Every collector has their own preference on what is best, but some of the basics are the same.  There are also many different types of displays.  I will try to touch on all of them.
If you are visiting this page for the first time, please take a moment and visit the "About Me" page.  This page will give you some insight to my line of thinking, and why specific patterns, styles, and colors continue to show up.
I am trying to create a place also where other can share their collections and thoughts.  If you have picture, stories, or advise that you would like  to share with others, please e-mail them to me and I will post them.  Nothing is greater than sharing the things that bring you great joy so they may touch other peoples lives.

The arts are a deeply personal, indeed almost spiritual journey touching on personal artist interpretation. But it is the Native American Artists that have somehow caputered and intricately woven over 1,000 years history using method passed down from generations. These Indian arts and crafts people see their future as preserving and prolonging the historic roots of Native American Tribal Cuture.

A survey of gender-based artistic practices in Pueblo, Navajo, and Plains Indian cultures of the United States, and Inuit (Eskimo) culture of Canada. Examining how the social and artistic roles of men and women have changed in response to colonialism in the last two centuries, we will critique some of the entrenched notions in the literature about Native American peoples and their arts (notions of sacred vs. secular, art vs. craft, authentic vs. touristic, and other distinctions).

Honoring the Legacy of Lewis and Clark:
Native American Art and
the Nineteenth Century American West
Honoring the Legacy of Lewis and Clark: Native American Art and the Nineteenth Century American West Trade between Native Americans and Europeans was well established in some areas by the early nineteenth century. Lewis and Clark carried glass beads popular with Native American women for use in their arts. Dating from the late nineteenth to the early twentieth centuries, this selection of objects offers evidence that the native peoples encountered by Lewis and Clark maintained their traditional styles and methods of production nearly one hundred years later, incorporating native and trade materials.
On view will be beaded garments from the Plains and Prairie peoples, basketry utilizing local fibers crafted by peoples of the plateau, and Native American objects that show the effect of continued contact with Euro-Americans. The University of Virginia Art Museum is located at 155 Rugby Road, one block from the Rotunda. Admission is free. Public hours are 1:00-5:00, Tuesday through Sunday.

A public lecture series presented by the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture, with support from the Walter Chapin Simpson Center for the Humanities, University Book Store, and the Canadian Studies Center. This public lecture series will accompany the Burke Museum's major exhibition, Out of the Silence: The Enduring Power of Totem Poles, on display from October 3, 2002 through September 1, 2003. The chief focus of the exhibit will be the dramatic history of Northwest Coast Native art over the last 50 years with the story told through a variety of voices and media.
This series will enrich the themes of the exhibit through public presentations by leading scholars and Native artists who have been personally involved in and influenced by that history. The series will engage a variety of voices in examinations of ethical, historical, personal, and cultural issues that have arisen over the last decades and that are important today. Selected Tuesdays
