The truth that most of Christendom is heavily infiltrated by pagan religion rests uncomfortably with most and yet, as this page demonstrates, it is a fact. More importantly than the reality of this situation is what Yahweh-Elohim, the Creator of Universe, thinks about it, and how He expects you to respond. We are living in the end-time of this present world during which Christ prophesied there would be a complete separation between true religion (the "wheat") and false religion (the "tares"), and those who are found to be amongst the tares will be burned up as stubble. The extent of the paganisation of Christianity may shock you and will demand a response - in favour of truth or falsehood. Click on the Titles to read more articles.

About OPS
How to Order Books Research Papers ... Journal Oneonta Philosophy Studies is a scholarly series that promotes exchange concerning traditional and contemporary issues in philosophy. Because comparative study often fosters appreciation and tolerance as well as understanding, special consideration is given to manuscripts that illuminate relationships between diverse or seemingly discrete views. Historical and cultural studies are especially welcome. Submission is open to all without regard to institutional affiliation, political preference, religious belief, gender, or national origin. Manuscripts are subject to external review. Published material does not necessarily reflect the views of the Editorial Board, the Philosophy Department, or the State University of New York. A series such as this depends on the vision, good will, and labor of many. Special appreciation is extended to the

Year 13
About the unit This module provides opportunity for a depth study of issues in the Philosophy of Religion. The module builds on some concepts introduced in AS Module 6, Religion and Science. Candidates should be aware of the scholarly debates about the following as seen in the scheme, and should be able to draw their own conclusions. Appropriate exemplification and illustration from any world religion will be credited. Where the unit fits in This unit forms the final unit to be studied (along with John’s Gospel) before the students take the final synoptic module in order to obtain the A2. The unit will also go on to help pupils in their synoptic module
Expectations At the end of this unit most pupils will: be able to quote and refer to the major points of the arguments for the existence of God particularly concentrating on the Cosmological and the Ontological. This must include understanding the difference between a posteriori and a priori reasoning; inductive and deductive arguments; proof and probability; the relationship between reason and faith.

Mysticism And Psychosis by Melissa Becktel
Psychotic and religious experiences have been associated since the earliest recorded history. The Old Testament uses the same term in reference to madness sent by God to punish the disobedient, and to describe the behavior of prophets (Rosen, 1968). Socrates declared, "Our greatest blessings come to us by way of madness, provided the madness is given us by divine gift." (Dodds, 1951, p. 61). A fundamental issue that has kept religion and the clinical fields in relatively separate compartments is the concern among clinicians that religiosity can be associated with a variety of mental disorders, especially schizophrenia. Many of the symptoms associated with acute schizophrenia and schizotypal personality disorder, such as delusion and hallucinations, are often expressed in religious form (Smith, 1982). The nature of schizophrenia, and other forms of psychosis, is still under debate and a significant issue is the relationship between psychosis and the mystical, or religious, experience. A number of empirical studies have pointed to negative relationships between religious conservatism and various dimensions of individual mental health (Dreger, 1952). In order to discover the relationship between the two, we must first direct our analysis to defining mystical experience and psychosis individually.
Defining Mysticism In my research, the following characteristics emerged repeatedly as each author attempted to define mystical experience: experience of unity, intense affective experience, time/space distortion, noetic quality, ineffability, and a sense of holiness or sacredness. These experiences typically lasted one to three hours. In addition, the authors generally included the concept of universality in their definitions.

Near-Death-Like Experiences by John L. Griffin, PhD Actor Larry Hagman's perspective on life is the polar opposite from that of his famous character, J.R. Ewing, on the popular, long-running Dallas television series. He sums it up at the end of his recent autobiography, Hello Darlin' Evidence of the After-life Not long after Larry disclosed his Near-Death Experience on television, I learned that he would be at the Local Hero Bookstore in Ojai for a book signing. I stopped by to find a diverse group of people in a friendly and almost festive atmosphere in the large patio behind the store. And there was Larry, jovially signing away. I waited my turn in a rather long line and then was face-to-face with an open and engaging man who seemed a lot more like Major Nelson in I Dream of Jeannie than J.R. Ewing on Dallas . Still, there did seem to be a bit of a Texas persona, but a genuinely friendly, down-to-earth one. I got right to the point and asked if I could arrange an interview about his NDE. After briefly explaining World University's Thanatology Program in terms of care for the dying, bereavement counseling, and conscious living and dying - particularly in light of the implications of the Near-Death Experience - he understood and agreed to meet with me. Taking a ten thousand dollar bill from a stack next to him, he wrote his phone number on it, saying "Give me a call." On the face of the bill was a picture of Larry in a ten gallon Stetson hat underneath a banner proclaiming, "The United State of Texas." Alongside was a declaration in smaller letters: "This note isn't worth the paper it's printed on." On the reverse was the motto, "In Hagman We Trust" over a picture of the Southfork Ranch from

Here is our Seattle IANDS Bibliography of the Seattle International
Association for Near-Death Studies Health Care Provider Version
Fortunately the days are long gone when people who talk about their near-death experiences (NDEs) are routinely judged insane or committed to some institution to be "cured." With people less reticent to be open about this common human experience, it becomes important for health care professionals and others to be aware of the literature available to help people understand what has happened to them and how to handle it. These authors have been chosen primarily for their academic or medical credentials. Their books are useful for helping understand what a near-death experience is and how to assist people who have had an NDE learn how to process their experience. Critics and skeptics who dismiss stories of near-death experiences as delusions and the stuff of tabloid journalism are generally ignorant of the substantial body of work that exists today, of which this bibliography lists only a sample. Health care providers who consider near-death experiences something to be "treated," ridiculed or dismissed are doing a professional disservice to the patients in their care. It is a sign of trust when your patients share these experiences with you. If you want to understand how to help them process their experiences, then this bibliography is for you. Seattle IANDS

By Carol Zaleski
Oxford, Oxford University Press, 1987. 275 Pp. $18.95. Christian versions of this ancient phenomenon, the near-death experience narrated as an other world journey, go back at least to the vision of St. Paul when he was "caught up into the third heaven" (II Cor. 12:1-4). Currently, near-death narratives are attracting remarkable academic interest from neurologists, neuro-psychologists, psychologists, and psychoanalysts as well as anthropologists and students of religion. This is to say nothing of the fascination these stories hold for readers of popular religious literature. Zaleski writes, "to refuse the challenge to interpret near-death literature is only to widen the gap between academic theology and popular religious concerns." Carol Zaleski is a lecturer on the study of religion at Harvard University and this volume, originally her Harvard dissertation, is a carefully argued, insightful, and readable revision of the original manuscript. It includes sixty pages of notes and references that are available for the further pursuit of this research, which Zaleski wants to encourage. The first to put these experiences in historical perspective, this study begins with an overview of the otherworld journey as it has recurred throughout the world's religious traditions and especially as it has appeared in Western Christian history from the sixth to the early thirteenth century. In Zaleski's view, this historical period is comparable to our own, because, in such documents as

The alignment of our intelligence and intent with that of the universe..
..in a sacred act!
New insights have emerged in the last 30 years:
In 1977 Ilya Prigogine received a Nobel Peace Prize in Chemistry for The Theory of Dissipative Structures. When certain elements are put together in whole systems and then subjected to stress, the parts intelligently re-organise into a new whole and the system escapes into a higher order His findings bridged the critical gap between biology and physics - the missing link between living systems and the supposedly lifeless universe in which they arose. It explains irreversible processes in Nature - the movement towards higher and higher orders of Life. This was further proof that we have a rich, creative Universe that is intelligent and has an inherant self-ordering component and quality. Ilya Prigogine's Theory of Dissipative Structures can be likened to a "flowing wholeness", that is highly organised but always in process and that nature is in actuality saturated with order and equilibrium. Since the 1980's - ' Chaos Theory ' and ' Fractals ' have become very recent scientific studies of open systems. Qualities found within Mandelbrot fractals have been shown to have a self- ordering component in them too.

HOW TO BE A TRULY SPIRITUAL JEW* *AND AVOID THE PITFALLS OF QUICK-FIX RELIGIOUS CONSUMERISM Everywhere you go in the Reform movement, the word on people's lips is spirituality. It is the religious buzz word of our age. MINDLESS RELIGION
Despite a renewed interest in text study, many Reform Jews equate spiritual with non-intellectual. "I feel Jewish" has replaced "I know Jewish." Thought and the pursuit of knowledge are being sacrificed on the altar of affect. The author Flannery O' Connor has written: "One of the effects of modern liberal Protestantism has been gradually to turn religion into poetry and therapy, to make truth vaguer and more and more relative, to banish intellectual distinctions, to depend on feeling instead of thought, and gradually to come to believe that God has no power, that he cannot communicate with us, cannot reveal himself to us, indeed, has not done so and that religion is our own sweet invention." Her warning applies to all liberal religions. THE "NEW AGE" TRAP
