A version of this document can be viewed below, or download a printable version in Adobe Acrobat format. A copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader is necessary to view and print this file. For more information, contact: Janice Eret or Kay Stilwell Bergquist P R E F A C E This Accounting Users' Manual for Nebraska school districts is intended to help local school boards and administrators effectively collect and document financial data for educational management decisions. The use of this manual should significantly improve the completion of reports, such as the Annual Financial Report, required by the Nebraska Department of Education and other state agencies. It is intended to correspond with those concepts, fundamentals and current practices used in accounting principles followed by Nebraska school districts. The Nebraska Department of Education also recognizes that variations will always exist between school districts regarding definition of routine daily accounting needs versus those events which are considered occasional and unusual. As a result, not all situations can be predicted or sufficiently addressed in this manual. School boards should accommodate their needs outside the structure required by the Nebraska Department of Education; this manual addresses the minimum reporting requirements. Therefore, school districts may expand on this groundwork to meet their own requirements.

GENERAL SURGERY RESIDENCY PROGRAM
  • Rotations FAQ: Answers to commonly asked questions. Faculty Application Guidelines
  • Department of Surgery The General Surgery Residency at the University of Nebraska is a comprehensive, five-year surgical training program leading to Board eligibility. Emphasis is placed on developing excellence in clinical surgery in an environment which also allows involvement in research and academic activities. During the five years, the resident develops expertise in continuity of care preoperatively, postoperatively, and operative techniques through a program of graduated responsibilities. Experience is gained in general, transplantation, vascular, surgical oncology, cardiothoracic, plastic and reconstructive surgery, head and neck, endocrine, traumatology, and, to a lesser degree, the other surgical subspecialties. We currently offer three positions for the complete five-year general surgery program. In addition, eight positions are available in a one- to two-year preliminary program in preparation for further training in one of the surgical subspecialties. Surgical rotations and electives in the preliminary program can be modified to provide the resident with early exposure to his or her career goal. The only postgraduate fellowship program offered is in transplantation surgery. As a result, the residents' operative experience is not eroded by competition with fellows.

The brief, titled The No Child Left Behind Act: What States Need to Know is the second in a series of policy primers on timely education issues. The pamphlet focuses on three broad themes of the new law: accountability, teacher quality, and state flexibility. The contents summarize the new accountability requirements and the specific calculations required for "adequate yearly progress" (AYP), outline the federal definitions of a "highly qualified" teacher that state licensing requirements must incorporate, and review the states' flexibility options, including the shifting of funds among federal programs. The publication concludes with a set of state implementation questions for policymakers. National Association of State Boards of Education, 703/684-4000 or

    Overview, Background and Purpose INTRODUCTION:
Established in 1981, the Nebraska LEAD (Leadership Education/Action Development) Program is a statewide agricultural leadership development program designed to develop people. With initial funding from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, the program is under the direction of the Nebraska Agricultural Leadership Council, Inc. Initially co-sponsored by Agriculture Builders of Nebraska, the program is supported today by Nebraska's leading individuals, businesses, and organizations. Virtually every institution of higher education in Nebraska, both public and private, provide necessary in-kind support as host institutions for twelve in-state seminars. The Nebraska LEAD Program is designed to increase knowledge and understanding of economics and social changes affecting agriculture and rural areas. It strives to develop problem solving, decision making and communication skills and abilities that are necessary for agriculturalists to address today's complex problems. It also encourages practical application of leadership skills and abilities necessary to represent agriculture at all levels.

St. John's University is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to offering the highest standards of education for affordable tuition through the convenience of home-study. Students are encouraged to take full responsibility for seeking their own truth and applying it the best they can in their daily lives. Millions Benefit from Home-Study
Legitimate education through correspondence began in the United States in 1728. By 1883, home-study programs gained formal recognition in the state of New York. Today every major university in the United States offers curriculum by correspondence. Educational needs are changing as busy, highly productive individuals select educational programs that suit their needs as well as their time and budget. There are over 12 million individuals actively pursuing their education through home-study programs each year. Over 100 million Americans since 1900 have taken advantage of the opportunity to study by mail. This includes distinguished Americans such as Walter P. Chrysler, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Walter Cronkite, Barry Goldwater, Charles Schultz, creator of the Peanuts comic strip, and many others. Research reveals that distance learning graduates compare very favorably in knowledge, skill, and self- directed motivation to their campus counterparts. For this reason, many businesses and industries have chosen home-study programs to train employees. Today almost half of the "Fortune 500" corporations employ home-study courses to train their employees. Many corporations fully reimburse their employees who are enrolled at St. John's University.
