National Service in Nevada
Getting things done in Nevada. More than people of all ages and backgrounds are helping to solve problems and strengthen communities through national service projects across Nevada. Serving through local nonprofits, schools, religious organizations and other groups, these citizens tutor and mentor children, coordinate after-school programs, build homes, organize neighborhood watch groups, clean parks, recruit volunteers, and accomplish other things to improve communities. From the Condition of Education report: The International Adult Literacy Survey (IALS) assessed adult literacy performance in 12 countries. The five literacy levels expressed along three scales prose, document, and quantitative measure a range of literacy, from the basic ability to locate information within simple text, to the ability to understand and use printed information in daily activities, at home, at work, and in the community. As society becomes more complex and low skill jobs continue to disappear, concern about adults' ability to use written information to function in society continues to increase.

US State Government Aid The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to apply for most state loan, grant and scholarship programs, in addition to the federal loans and grants. When you submit the FAFSA to the US Department of Education, they forward the information on the form to the state student assistance agency. Each state has a different FAFSA submission deadline. If you submit your FAFSA by March 1, you will be in time for all state deadlines, other than Michigan. If you miss the deadline, you will be ineligible to receive state aid for the entire academic year. Procedures for applying for state prepaid tuition programs and the national guard differ from state to state. The amount of information provided on the state web sites varies from state to states. Some states provide comprehensive information about residency requirements, loan, grant, scholarship and prepaid tuition programs and other state aid programs. Others provide minimal information. We recommend visiting the sites for both your state of residence and for the states of the colleges to which you are applying. A B C D ...

NATIONAL ACADEMIES REPORT SAYS WHITE HOUSE CLIMATE CHANGE STRATEGIC PLAN LACKS VISION
In its recently released report, the National Academies' National Research Council Committee for Review of the U.S. Climate Change Science Program Strategic Plan said the Bush Administration's draft strategic climate change research plan lacked clear vision and would not lead to the kind of research that policymakers could rely on to make science-based decisions in dealing with the effects of climate change. The committee made several recommendations to clarify goals, improve program management of the plan, fill key gaps of needed information, and strengthen decisionmaking capability to set the stage for implementing the plan.
