Nursing Program This Nursing Program at Nevada State College is designed to serve four student populations:
  • High school graduates, or G.E.D. completers, interested in pursuing the initial four-year degree program; Adults who have already completed a bachelor’s degree and are interested in pursuing a second degree in nursing; Graduates of an Associate Degree or diploma nursing program who are working registered nurses, and; Nursing clinicians seeking professional development and enhancement of their knowledge and skills.
The Pre-Licensure baccalaureate degree track provides high school graduates and second degree students (those already holding a bachelors degree), with the content and instruction to prepare them for entry-level professional registered nursing positions. After completion of the program, graduates are qualified to take the registered nurse licensing examination (NCLEX-RN) and enter positions in public health agencies, schools, hospitals and other health care agencies.
The RN to BSN completion track is for licensed registered nurses who have graduated from associate degree or diploma nursing programs. The BSN curriculum builds upon previous nursing and liberal arts course work. The program is designed to support educational mobility and to strengthen community health and leadership abilities of nurses who already have a foundation in the profession.

Teacher Education Programs The College of Education at The University of Iowa offers two major teacher preparation programs based on baccalaureate degrees. Elementary education is a College of Liberal Arts and Sciences major leading to either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree. The secondary education programs combine a specific liberal arts and sciences academic major with teacher preparation course work leading to a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree. The college also provides numerous specialized elementary (including early childhood) and secondary teaching endorsement programs. Preparation for special education teaching is offered primarily at the graduate level. In addition, a new undergraduate multicategorical resource program is available for elementary education students admitted to this program. A limited number of undergraduate special education courses are open to all students who are interested in this area, to those from other teacher education programs, and to those planning to pursue graduate degrees in special education. Undergraduate students admitted to a teacher education program (TEP) must complete all College of Liberal Arts and Sciences General Education requirements for the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science. The quantitative or formal reasoning component must be satisfied with a college-level mathematics course.

Dear Friends, DRI President Stephen G. Wells (photo by John Doherty) DRI News . In our last issue, we reported on investigations into the diversity of life in the many natural springs found throughout Nevada. These stories, and others like them, prompted us to plan a special issue of the DRI News focusing on the broad range of research that DRI conducts in the state. I want to introduce you to some of these projects and programs. DRI News , you can read about our work on the Truckee River and Walker Lake. Research addressing groundwater and surface water issues along much of the Truckee River provides valuable information for managers of the primary water source serving the Truckee Meadows. Information on sources of salinity, for example, has provided the basis for mitigation measures with the potential to save several millions of dollars in infrastructure improvements. Wading into the subject . DRI scientists and graduate students taking meteorological measurements in mid-river on the lower Truckee River. Left to right, Associate Research Ecologist Jim Brock, graduate research assistants Sarah Peterson and Jason Kuchnicki, and John Stanley, former DRI scientist.

Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel
http://www.cbbt.com/

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel is a 20 mile long series of bridges and tunnels that connect Virginia Beach/Norfolk to Virginia's Eastern Shore. The project is an engineering marvel; besides supporting vehicular traffic, the tunnels allow sea-going vessels passage into and out of the bay. A great deal of information is given on the project's home page, including a map of the surrounding area, historical perspectives, interesting facts, tourist attractions, and frequently asked questions. There are also a few pictures scattered throughout the site that show the enormity of the bridge-tunnel.
