All About This Website:
This site was created in February 1996 as a resource for the special education community. Not only do we provide timely and relevant links to informative sites, but we are gratified that many sites include Special Education for Special Children
as one of their links as well. Please feel free to suggest additional links or other information that you think would be helpful. Don't forget to sign our guestbook. We'd love to know that you were here!
Special Note: Please do not e-mail the webmaster of this site asking for advice. The site was designed by the parent of a special child and while he has had many experiences in the world of special education, including the presidency of a SEPTA, he is not qualified to give advice or make recommendations. Thank you.

The UNLV Parent/Family Wellness Center
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas is taking a leadership role in preventing family problems through the training it offers in the Parent/Family Wellness Center. The center reaches out to the community, providing the facilities, resources, and expertise to help people become better parents and to foster a partnership between families and educators.
A look at the following statistics explains just why the Parent/Family Wellness Center is so important.
  • One million children and adolescents are severely abused; 2,000-5,000 die each year. 8,000 people, ages 15-24, die in alcohol related traffic accidents. Two-thirds of American adolescents experiment with drugs before graduation. Suicides claim 5,000 adolescent lives, another 50,000 attempt it.
Government and school district policies alone cannot solve these problems. Instead, parents must work with their families and educators to form partnerships based on mutual support and better communication. Improving how parents and children communicate is the best long-term investment for preventing family problems.
How can the Parent/Family Wellness Center help?
