@import url(/include/wnccstyle.css); Transfer Programs Many WNCC students choose to transfer to a four-year college or university after completing their associate degrees. Recent surveys of WNCC students show they have transferred to colleges throughout the country including: UNR; UNLV; California State University; the University of California; Montana State University; Sierra Nevada College; Idaho State University and Southern Illinois University. How WNCC Courses Transfer to other UCCSN Institutions
Courses with numbers 100 to 299 (such as ENG 101) are college level courses which are designed to transfer within the University and Community College System of Nevada, and often to other colleges and universities, including UNR and UNLV, as either an equivalent, a departmental elective or a general elective. Courses with a "B" designator after the number (such as MATH 100B) are college level courses which apply toward a WNCC degree but which may not transfer to other UCCSN schools. In some cases, these courses may transfer to other Nevada schools or to out-of-state college and universities. See a WNCC counselor for the latest transfer information. Please review this section and the Nevada Regulatory Agencies table.
Then contact each agency which might affect your business. Businesses which operate in-state, operate vehicles under 10,001 pounds and transport only their own employees or property typically do not fall under any special vehicle-related regulation. An exception is Employer Van Pools, which are regulated by the Nevada Transportation Services Authority Persons using their own private passenger vehicles for delivery purposes (newspapers, food, runners, etc.) do not fall under additional regulation as long as they are under contract with only one business or a limited number of businesses. Nevada has higher liability insurance requirements for this type of service but the business typically carries the extra coverage. H ISTORY Genoa, located in the Carson Valley, is tucked against the sides of the mountains. This small town has the distinction of being Nevada's oldest town but has recently seen growth and development with new homes and golf courses. The neighboring towns of Gardnerville and Minden have also seen continued growth and popularity over the past decade. Genoa was established as a trading post in 1851 to serve the wagon trains as a resting and reprovisioning place between the open desert of the Great Basin and the granite barricade of the Sierra Nevada, Mormon Station, as the original settlement was called, became the nucleus of a small farming population. R ECREATION With less snow than the Lake Tahoe areas, our Summer and Spring time recreational pursuits such as golf and bike riding are almost year round events. There are two golf courses located in the heart of Genoa (Sierra Nevada and Genoa Lakes golf courses) and nearby Gardnerville and Minden both have golf courses. For those that enjoy Winter sports, we are only a short drive from the South Shore of Lake Tahoe and the nearby ski resorts. At the California/Nevadan Lake Tahoe border is Heavenly Ski Resort. Heavenly has a peak elevation of 10,040 feet and 25 chair lifts. With the casinos you have gaming, entertainment, and fine dining only minutes away.

Inside Energy, November 22, 1999 Owens Corning and the Department of Energy (DOE) announced a campaign to assist U.S. public schools in becoming more energy efficient. Roughly $1.5 billion of the $6 billion U.S. schools spend each year is wasted due to poor insulating systems, ventilating, cooling, lighting, and heating. A four-day "Saving Energy Starts With Me" campaign will be included in the campaign, which features a home energy quiz and hands-on experiments. In addition, during the announcement, twelve "Energy Smart School Ambassadors" released an "Energy Smart Schools Proclamation." The Ambassadors were student winners of a "Saving Energy Starts With Me" contest sponsored by Owens Corning and DOE. An Energy Smart Schools Proclamation signed by students, parents, and other interested parties will be forwarded to local school superintendents in April 2000, in conjunction with Earth Day 2000. H ISTORY Sparks was founded in 1904 when the Central Pacific Railroad built a new railroad there to replace Wadsworth as the big switching yard on this section of the Southern Pacific Railroad. The railroad offered employees 50 x 140 foot lots to build homes on and selling for just $1.00 per lot, the land went quickly. In a single day, the town of Sparks was born. Originally named Harriman after the railroad tycoon, Sparks was renamed after Nevada's fourth governor, John D. Sparks. At the time of this renaming, an anti-railroad rebellion boiled up in the legislature, eventually resulting in the creation of the Public Service Commission to regulate tariffs. Sparks maintained a "clean cut" reputation from 1907 to the early 1950's when it rejected development of bars and casinos and the city council outlawed the popular local pastime of driving up to a saloon in a buggy and having drinks at the curb. Family oriented and hard-working, most early residents were employees of the railroad, and the little city of Sparks grew slowly with the railroad. In 1955, an economic revival began when Dick Graves opened the Sparks Nugget restaurant chain. In 1958, John Ascuaga acquired the Nugget and a gaming license and gave Sparks its first skyscraper. Following this passing in to the era of casinos and bars, Sparks continued to strive to retain its neighborly atmosphere. As the Nugget brought more employees and their families to the area acres upon acres of land blossomed into one subdivision after another.
