Location: New Brunswick New Brunswick
New Brunswick is one of the four Atlantic provinces of Canada. Forests cover about 85 percent of the land in New Brunswick and the manufacture of lumber, paper, and other forest products is important to the province's economy. New Brunswick also has rich farmland in the St John River Valley. Mineral deposits have been discovered in the northeastern part of the province and the province's rivers have been harnessed to provide electricity. Much of New Brunswick's early settlement came from American colonists who left after the American Revolution . Some 14,000 of these, known as United Empire Loyalists, began arriving in 1783. New Brunswick was one of the original provinces of the Canadian Confederation. One of its best known natural features is the Bay of Fundy , which it shares with Nova Scotia

Quebec City, Quebec, Canada Protected by the looming spires of the venerable Chateau Frontenac, Quebec City's Lower Town crowds the narrow shore of the St. Lawrence. Above the cliffs, in Upper Town, Quebec's provincial capital goes about the daily business of government, but here, in narrow cobblestoned streets bordered by 17th-century stone houses, you feel like you're in the heart of medieval Europe. In fact, Quebec is the only walled city in North America. The exquisite Notre Dame des Victoires Church was built in 1688 on the site where Samuel de Champlain founded Quebec in 1608. With the ocean on one side and the U.S. border on the other, New Brunswick is an accessible vacation spot, which is great for outdoor activities like golf. The magnificent rock formations at Hopewell Rocks, climbing Mount Carleton, whale watching in the Bay of Fundy, visiting the Kings Landing Historical Settlement or eating a delicious lobster dinner are just a few of the things to be done here. New Brunswick Overview
Location
Bordering on Nova Scotia, Quebec and the American state of Maine, New Brunswick is almost rectangular in shape, about 322 kilometres tall and 242 kilometres wide. It is the most westerly of the Maritime Provinces, that border on the Atlantic Ocean. The province borders on the Bay of Fundy, which funnels the tides in an unusual manner, creating the world's most extreme tides, measuring over 14 metres (48 feet). The province is also home to the famous Reversing Falls, that change direction with the tides! The province uses Atlantic Time, as do the other maritime Provinces (except Newfoundland). There are ferry connections between Saint John and southern Nova Scotia. Note : some people often confuse the names of Saint John (singular) New Brunswick with St. John's (possessive) Newfoundland

Hopewell Rocks Highest Tides A long-simmering feud between Arctic Quebec and the Maritimes over who has the world's highest ocean tides has been settled by federal scientists, but neither side is happy with the outcome. ( map from Parks Canada) Authorities at the Canadian Hydrographic Service, the agency responsible for mapping domestic waterways, have declared a tie between the famous tides of the Bay of Fundy and those of Ungava Bay on the northern coast of Quebec. ... the world's largest tides, "with a range from low to high tide that can exceed 16 metres at the head of the bay," has been wiped out after scientists determined it was in a tidal tie with Leaf Basin in the southwest corner of Ungava Bay. They say the highest tides in Leaf Basin are 16.8 metres. The latest high tide data from Burntcoat Head, N.S., on the shore of the Minas Basin shows 17-metre tides. The very highest tides only occur in each location once every 18 years, so these numbers are projected estimates using annual high tide averages. Because the projected difference between Ungava Bay and the Bay of Fundy is only 20 centimetres, it is a tie.

A very neat, official version of this flag can be found at : http://www.gov.nb.ca/cnb/design/dlp2.htm See also: yellow with black ship with white sail and three red flags sailing on wavy blue and white lines, golden lion in red in chief. ratio 5:8. officially hoisted 1965-03-25. Civil and state flag on land.
Zeljko Heimer - 16 July 1996 According to FTAAATW , Pedersen and Barraclough 1971 the ratio is 5 : 8; On the official New Brunswick site: http://www.gov.nb.ca/cnb/design/design/download/flag1.gif, the flag is 444x284 pixels, which is slightly more than 5:8. so I guess that must be the official ratio, and not 1 : 2.
Jarig Bakker - 27 June 1999 I'm the one who sent a 1:2 flag, and yes, the flag of New Brunswick is not a 1:2 flag; I've always heard 2:3, so I'll have to look into this. However, the flag is 1:2 because the Canadian government has this policy that all flags flown side-by-side with the Canadian flag must be of a ratio of 1:2. Hence, flags like Quebec's fleur-de-lys or the flags of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, etc. are all "stretched" to fit this policy. Since the flag was bought here in Burlington, Ontario, it would seem unlikely that the flag would be flown without the Canadian flag nearby. Hence, all the flags sold at this store are of a 1:2 ratiuo, to fit with Canadian policy, including the French and British flags I'd bought a while back.
